GaryOpa, admin of PSX-Scene, has discovered a somewhat major issue, regarding PS3 downgrading. He is reporting, that the ability to play blu-ray movies was lost, after downgrading his console. However, he was able to restore the feature, by replacing his entire dev_flash2 and dev_flash3, with files he had saved previously, while on 3.41 firmware. However, this does not help people already on 3.50 firmware, hoping to downgrade, or people who have already downgraded. Stay tuned, as we can only hope a fix will be found for the masses soon. In the meantime, do not downgrade if you wish to retain blu-ray movie playback.

I was able to restore one machine I had, by copying over all the files I had in the /dev_flash2 and /dev_flash3 back to the HDD, that I had saved before when it was on v3.41

But that does not help those that were on v3.50 factory fresh or with no previous full /dev_flash2 & 3 backup.

I not sure what file was that fixed the problem.

We need more machines, more tests.

I have previously tried everything, upgrading, downgrading, using normal pup files, modded pup files, older ones, new ones, but NOPE, the only way I was able to start watching movies again was overwriting those files from my very lucky backup I had of my previous Jailbroken v3.41 /dev_flash2 and /dev_flash3 file contents.

1. Downgrade using the modified 3.41 PUP file.

2. Then downgrade using a normal PUP file (pre-3.41) like 3.21

3. And then update using a normal 3.41 PUP file in retail mode.

Or you could try the opposite. IE downgrade to OFW eg 3.21 then upgrade to modified 3.41?

The modified 3.41 is the problem, that's why I say to update to a normal 3.41

I've done some researching on PSX scene and apparently its not the PUP files that are the problem. Supposedly the problem comes around when you put the PS3 into service mode to downgrade and when that happens some features are disabled presumably to legitimately debug and when you 'restore' the PS3 to full functionality the BluRay player does not return to normal settings however it remains as though it were in service mode :P Sounds like we are on the first step to fixing the problem Happy

This is the exact reason I've been telling people to make sure they do a full system backup if they plan on downgrading. That way they can restore all of the F'd files from the backup. Of course then you lose your jailbreak but at least you're able to get your system to play blu-ray again.

External hard disk with enough space to cover whatever it is you have on your PS3 currently. For most people that would be anything 40gb or below.

It does take forever and a day. But after you connect the drive (Fat32 partition is a must btw) go to system settings and select backup then choose the external hard disk you just plugged in. Easy process, just time consuming.
