GaryOpa, admin of PSX-Scene, has discovered a somewhat major issue, regarding PS3 downgrading. He is reporting, that the ability to play blu-ray movies was lost, after downgrading his console. However, he was able to restore the feature, by replacing his entire dev_flash2 and dev_flash3, with files he had saved previously, while on 3.41 firmware. However, this does not help people already on 3.50 firmware, hoping to downgrade, or people who have already downgraded. Stay tuned, as we can only hope a fix will be found for the masses soon. In the meantime, do not downgrade if you wish to retain blu-ray movie playback.

I was able to restore one machine I had, by copying over all the files I had in the /dev_flash2 and /dev_flash3 back to the HDD, that I had saved before when it was on v3.41

But that does not help those that were on v3.50 factory fresh or with no previous full /dev_flash2 & 3 backup.

I not sure what file was that fixed the problem.

We need more machines, more tests.

I have previously tried everything, upgrading, downgrading, using normal pup files, modded pup files, older ones, new ones, but NOPE, the only way I was able to start watching movies again was overwriting those files from my very lucky backup I had of my previous Jailbroken v3.41 /dev_flash2 and /dev_flash3 file contents.

Here's what Math said about the modified 3.41

"On Wednesday 8th December 2010, @Mathieulh said:

The people having bluray movies playback issues after downgrading, this happens because you updated to a modified PUP (psjb one) which has its /dev_flash3/ tarball swapped (probably to a debug one, debug consoles do not sport bd movies playback) with other CRL/DRL revocation files."

It doesn't happen to everyone. Everyone uses the same modified 3.41 pup file to downgrade. Some say it could be how the hex file is compiled that give some people an issue with blu-ray movie playback. If you have that issue follow the instructions I posted on the first page, it will fix it.

a way you can bypass this issue is by downgrading to 3.41 then downgrading again to any lower firmware but use a retail pup file for any lower firmware and after downgrading that just update with the 3.41 pup file on a usb using the xmb option of updating via usb and itl install all the normal contents 3.41 had because its not a modded 3.41 your installing Smile

mine works fine. You just have to unplug the jailbreak device and turn off the ps3. restart it like normal and it will read the disc.

Movie playback Blu-ray after a downgrade

As we learned recently, movie playback Blu-ray after having downgraded its PS3 is impossible, this is the firmware 3.41 must have changed. In fact it contains a bug that the developers trying to correct.

To avoid this, the method is simple, downgraded your console firmware 2.10 or below, the procedure is the same except that the 2.10 firmware does not change so official. After that you just install via the XMB firmware 3.41 unmodified retail you can easily find on the Internet, as well as for 2.10.

Do not take a firmware above 2.10 because you squeeze forced to change the HDD temporarily (to be upgraded in laps3 3.41) because the console hangs when retrieving data.

This test was performed on a 60GB model so for those who want to try on a different model than it is at your own risk.
