(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); like the title said, post all ps3 downgrade theory/ideas here instead of making a bunch of new threads.

Threads are easier to navigate around and nobody is complaining? One theory may be progress but it would never be seen in here. Hence thread.

1- Take out the HDD of my ps3 ( 3.56 installed)
2- Put the 2.5'' HDD in my external HDD 2.5'' SATA enclosure case
3- Format the HDD-->the PS3's HDD now being a external HDD plugged to my computer
4- Put it back in my ps3 ( formated)
5- When the ps3 says it needs a firmware, update via USB stick to 3.55 OFW
6- Jailbreak with Kmeaw CFW

a lot of "theorys" are flooding this section which bury things that are actual exploits and hacks. if we all place them in here, it will stop alot of threads being made for ideas and theories.

no because the firmware is stored on the NAND and not on the HDD

Ps3 slim's NAND size= 16 MB

Firmware = around 200 MB

You might wanted to say that the most up to date firmware informations are located in the NAND chip. Maybe you are right. Then show me you sources.

Found this on psx-scene, i'm still on 3.55 so i'm unable to comfirm this.

Initial reports would indicate that this method is allowing a good proportion of SLIM ps3 users to downgrade from 3.56 to a lower firmware...I have not tried this myself as I own a Fat ps3 but thought it might be worthy of posting...

1. GO TO SETTINGS>SYSTEM RESTORE>FULL RESTORE

2. ONCE THE SYSTEM HAS RESTORED (ANYTHING UP TO 7 HOURS) BOOT STRAIGHT TO RECOVERY MENU (DO NOT POWER ON AS NORMAL FIRST)

3. THE RECOVERY MENU WILL DISPLAY YOU HAVING FW 1.41 ETC...OR SOMETHING SIMILAR. FROM HERE IT WILL ALLOW YOU TO INSTALL ANY LATER FIRMWARE THAN THIS INCLUDING CFW FROM USB. SO HAVE YOUR UPDATE DATA READY ON A USB STICK AND INSTALL FROM THE RECOVERY MENU.

4. ALL BEEN WELL...WELCOME BACK TO 3.55/3.41

NOTE: FULL RESTORE WILL MEAN LOSING GAME SAVES, USER ACCOUNTS ETC.

I understand that the firmware is stored on the NAND and not on the HDD but before the full restore the playstation says it will restore everything including system software and I have read that some people are having success using this method and I thought that if somebody on here has a 3.56 ps3 that they wouldn't mind trying this on to test the credibility then there's nothing to lose.

EDIT: I think the idea is that a sort of "base" FW is left on the system after a full restore that is only visible by accessing the recovery menu immediately after the restore. Just booting the ps3 up as normal after the restore will take you back to the FW you were on pre-restore. But if you can access the FW in the recovery menu it will let you update the FW to any later version.

EDIT 2: JUST THOUGHT, AFTER PERFORMING A SYSTEM RESTORE DOES THE SYSTEM TURN OFF? OR RESTART? OR JUST HANG AT 100%. BECAUSE ID'VE THOUGHT IT'S IMPERATIVE THAT THE SYSTEM DOES NOT BOOT AS NORMAL TO XMB. SO TO ANYONE TESTING THIS, MAKE SURE AFTER THE RESTORE THAT IT DOESN'T BOOT NORMALLY.

Here's the

Why did everyone update, you should have stayed at 3.55 and bypass the 3.56, like i did. Im still on 3.55, an im still hosting cl's(For free BTW)
But the downgrade will come in a couple of weeks i think:bro:

regardless where its stored its not on the HDD but on some sort of flash memory. if it was on the HDD then you think people wouldn't have released a tut on that allready? or that if you bricked, you could just change the HDD.
