(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); If your like me who woke up one morning and had your external hard drive plugged in to the ps3, turns on the ps3 and sees it lost everything, then follow this.

If you ever get your external hard drive crash and says its need to be formated when you plug it in to your PC, this is what you do:

go to start -> run -> type in "cmd" without the " -> type in chkdsk /f /r /x I:

(replace the I: with the letter of your external drive)

Windows 7:

go to Start -> Type in CMD in the search box -> right clikc the CMD result -> press Run as Administrator -> in the pop up box press Yes -> type in: chkdsk /f /r /x I:

(replace the I: with the letter of your external hard drive)

Thanks to this method, you wont need to format your drive, and you will not loose all of your precious games!!!

NOTE: This will take Hours depending on your drive, so let it run over night!

Hope This Helps!!!

Cheers!

It's funny. my friend just came up to me and told me how he updated his windows laptop to a new service pack and in doing so his external HDD shows nothing is there then I stumble upon this thread that is the same issue just different circumstances. Lol

When u say "had your external hard drive plugged in to the ps3, turns on the ps3 and sees it lost everything", do you mean if nothing shows up on your XMB or backup managers when ur external hdd is plugged in?

yea, in the back up manager. and then when you plug the hard drive in to your pc/laptop and it asks you to format it then you know it has crashed.
