(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); If your like me who woke up one morning and had your external hard drive plugged in to the ps3, turns on the ps3 and sees it lost everything, then follow this.

If you ever get your external hard drive crash and says its need to be formated when you plug it in to your PC, this is what you do:

go to start -> run -> type in "cmd" without the " -> type in chkdsk /f /r /x I:

(replace the I: with the letter of your external drive)

Windows 7:

go to Start -> Type in CMD in the search box -> right clikc the CMD result -> press Run as Administrator -> in the pop up box press Yes -> type in: chkdsk /f /r /x I:

(replace the I: with the letter of your external hard drive)

Thanks to this method, you wont need to format your drive, and you will not loose all of your precious games!!!

NOTE: This will take Hours depending on your drive, so let it run over night!

Hope This Helps!!!

Cheers!

What it does is check your disk surface for physical errors or bad clusters, this is an old method i've used since Win 3.1

Never lost anything on my PS3 external hard drive before, but i guess this could be useful if your desperate. LOL@hope you got 6 to 10 hours to kill

is this hard drive your actual ps3 hard drive?

either way, it should work, as stated earlier, it checks for bad ectors on your hard drive.

Is it normal to get some files that are unreadable as it goes along?

My friends External HDD, isn't used for a ps3, but for holding music and movies for his laptop, it gives some not able to be read. Also is there a faster method to doing this by any chance? lol

no faster method that i am aware of. as for not readin files - let it run and finish each job. you then should be able to access the hard drive and check why it wasnt reading the files. but i think it will all be ok once it finishes.
