(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); was readin up about the removal of certain functions from the ps3, and would love to know exactly what has been removed from the software with each so called update? I.E. what functions have we paid for, been taken away from us, and how much we, as payin customers, have not been refunded and re-embursed for our losses?

if anyone has copies of the firmware updates and could make any comparisons to find out what we have lost? if we get these comparisons, then we could make a legal argument that sony has effectively stolen from us, WHETHER PROPERTY IS PHYSICAL OR DIGITAL, IF SOMEONE TAKES IT WITHOUT OUR KNOWLEDGE OR CONSENT, THAT IS THEFT! and sony have stolen from millions of us!:hitman:

jus read the new terms on the latest update, sony are tryin to cover their arses by saying they've taken these functions to protect our security and also altered the terms to allow themselves to access all our data on our systems, surely they may be entitled to alter software to do with the network, but altering my software that has nothin to do with online gameplay or networking, is not on! they take the ****in piss!
if that was apple sayin they were now allowing themselves acces to all your iPhones there would be ****in outrage, but as most ps3's are owned by younger citizens, who generally dont make it their business to know their digital rights, these infringements of basic rights seem to be overlooked, as the ppl affected have no idea it is being done. we are old enough to do something about it though!
we need to raise awareness of what sony is doing to the digital rights of its customers! we are paying top money, for a top console, THAT DOESN'T PERFORM TO THE STANDARD THAT WAS PROMISED OR NOW EVEN HAVE THE SAME CAPABILITIES THAT IT WAS SOLD WITH! i want all the functions of my ps3 back! FOR EXAMPLE; WOULD YOU FORK OUT £100,000 FOR A LAMBORGHINI THAT WAS RESTRICTED TO 80MPH?
of course not
WOULD YOU THEN ALLOW LAMBORGHINI TO REMOVE CERTAIN FUNCTIONS, FROM YOUR PROPERTY, AT THEIR WILL, SUCH AS THE STEREO OR TRACTION CONTROL WITHOUT GIVING YOU MONEY BACK????

BLOODY RIGHT YOU WOULDN'T

SO WHY ARE WE ALLOWING IT WITH OUR CONSOLES????

we need to do something about this but alone we dont stand a chance, together we can make them pay attention, a suit has been filed in the US and the amounts of money that they calculated are at stake, were in the MILLIONS, we have the law on our side too.

LAWS MADE FOR DAYS LIKE THESE WHEN BIG COMPANIES TRY AND SCREW THE CONSUMER!

WE CAN GET OUR MONEY BACK!

ok i seem to have been a bit unclear on this, i am really pissed about this please excuse me, ok technically you are right, they had consent, but consent that was obtained very sneakily, as you all probably know most people do not read the updates they just update as a standard procedure to allow continued use of their system, now furthermore, the then chief engineer in charge of the linux system released a statement that the new systems would no longer have the OtherOS function (OK) but the old systems would retain the option and be maintained on the network. A few weeks later an "update" that "downgraded" our systems was released and the linux option was removed from all systems that updated. (not illegal but deceptive and exploitative)

the actual bit that is against trading standards, is removing the function without giving any compensation for what we have already paid for.

if you approach your retailer and quote the trading standards act and ask them to take up your case or you'll refer them, they will give you the amount deemed fair by the courts, precedented by amazon. around $80 if i remember correctly.

contact trading standards they will give the article numbers to quote if you ask for them correctly, and reclaim your money. :hitman:

so the network has been down for over a week now, the clever buggers that got into sony's brain have succeeded in making their point. they alegedly offered to sell back the data they got to sony for $100,000. a tiny amount of money considering the scale of it.
sony refused the offer just as they refused the possibility that anyone could break their security. now look at them.

the network is down, they are losing customers, all because they wanted to make an example of geohot and his talented colleagues.

i used to think microsoft was bad but the xbox has been bent to the will of hackers and devs for years but they havent kicked up half as much fuss as sony have in the first 12 months, or been as arrogant as to suggest that the next gen of hackers, programmers and devs are not good enough to break into their shiny glass house. in short i conclude that sony efffectively brought this on themselves, i do not think they realised the scale of what they had brought down on themselves and were complacent in the safeguarding of sensitive data.

my estimations of sony are very low right now.
