This is a .pup viewer that will allow you to examine the contents of a .pup. to use it just click File>open and locate the .pup file you with to see the contents of.

first off we will use envy_astro's cfw as an example. I WILL NOT LINK HIS CFW BECAUSE ITS FAKE

envy released a 3.55 cfw that alleged it spoofed 3.60 with the new auth. alot of people installed and assumed that it was a 3.55 cfw with psn but without peek poke and syscalls. In actuality it was a 3.60 OFW with two files deleted and the version.txt changed

Here is a pic showing the contents of 3.60OFW and his fake cfw
You must login or register to view this content.

the contents can be found in the modules folder. as you can see there is a date within the file names, and they are according to the release date of the firmware. since 3.60 was released in march of 2011 we know that envy's cfw must be 3.60 OFW and not a 3.55 cfw because all of his dev files are 3.60 files.

SO if there is ever a release of a firmware that promises something by a not so known dev, the best option is to view what is in his .pup, it can allow you to see if his files are what he is saying they are. remember don't make your self a guinea pig.

If you have 2 PS3's one running 3.60 and the other 3.55, you can try downloading the so called CFW on youre 3.60 first, and if it lets you download it with no problem, then its a fake one. But if it gives you and error, then it might be a 3.55 CFW

not everyone has 2 ps3's ;P

This tut helps explain much more in depth. Thanks. I knew the basic concept already, but I wasn't sure quite how to do it.

Do a barrel roll!
well not to be on the wrong track here but, to be honest the well know developers from the PS3 scene should learn to release things more than being greedy (like Matheiuh) because the more things doesn't get released, the more fake cfws we get. and you see why half of us complain on crap like this all the time and start learning to play smart like one cfw for the public that people would want for psn and stuff until sony blocks access for that. another cfw for research purposes like a working one for later Ofw releases in the future, and for safe keeping another found keys for later use until important notice. thats just my opinion and some people might think im wrong but never know it might work, just saying Winky Winky
