I was talking to some friends about how I would rather pay for Xbox LIVE than get PSN for free b/c of the problems I heard on it. And one of my friends showed me this link from GameInformer, although it is older I did not see it posted on here and found it interesting.

In a presentation last month, Sony's Kaz Hirai mentioned that Sony was considering a premium PSN service that would come with a monthly fee. New comments from the company show that this idea is clearly gaining momentum.

Speaking to Nikkei Electronics, Sony Computer Entertainment executive vice president and chief technology officer Masayuki Chatani again brought up the pay-to-play topic: "In addition to single-payment packaged software, there are also schemes like monthly fees or per-item charges," explained Chatani when talking about new ways for Sony to generate revenue.

Sony already has an array of per-item charges, whether you're talking about PSN content or items in Home, but monthly fees are clearly something different. Kaz Hirai, in his previous remarks, also mentioned the possibility of charging for a premium PSN subscription, but further reiterated that there would always be a free option as well.

This dates back to December but is still being processed by Sony if they will pursue this or not.
Even though a free option would be offered, it may be limited. Xbox has a free option of Silver but you get updates much slower and have no access to online multiplayer. This could happen with Sony.

Otherwise a free option will be available like with Xbox Silver (Xbox's free option), but will be limited. BTW there are many annoying PS3 'fanboys' too Winky Winky"

Yea I understand the whole fanboy annoyance.

As for the benefits of premium PSN;
I read somewhere else that if they were to start charging for PSN then the premium users would get several benefits such as in game voice chat (similar to XBL's) and several other things that I can't quite remember. If there would be no benefits then it would be a clear idiotic decision by Sony and probably cause the companies game console popularity to decline greatly...

And the fact that there would be a free option would make it superior to XBL. Good step forward, if it isn't too expensive, for Sony.

Maybe I wouldn't be hostile if you actually knew what you was talking about. As I have said, Sony already stated that if its currently free, It will remain free. & Then you say you can't think of any reason people would choose PS3 over xbox 360... Are you special Ed? We didn't pay a couple extra hundred dollars for PS3 so we could save $50 a year. We bought the PS3 cause it is the most technologically advanced & future proof console available. Not to mention an exclusive game line up that is actually innovative. No worries, though... MS spent your $50 on some nifty timed exclusive DLC for you to pay more $ on. You obviously came here to bash the PS3 without getting educated first. I doubt you even own a PS3, I don't understand why you would even open the PS3 forums.

It might, it is not completely confirmed what will be available on the free PSN compared to the one you will have to pay for. Xbox has it set-up to where you can't play Xbox LIVE multiplayer with a Silver membership (The free one) and also the updates are a little more delayed and not available as soon. PS3 may be heading towards something like that, but it is completely unconfirmed what the features between the free PSN and the charged PSN will be.

it is also completely unconfirmed if all these (lets say BS) is true or false. I would like the idea, but as for cod4 mw2 chain messages, i learned that any "unconfirmed" thing, not mentioned by the developers, is all BS Winky Winky

Vbux are Worthless
Thats pretty lame. I dislike the fact that xbox charges you for live but now seeing that Sony might be going through with the same concept just disappoints me. The only reason i liked ps3 to begin with was the free stuff, but now i won't even think twice at looking at it the same way again.
