You need to check your cables or their could be a problem with the internal blu ray im guessing but i belive this is the main cause. Check your video settings like you may have put HD in a 480p tv.

My first ps3 did this and it turned out the GPU was starting to partially separate. In the end it was junk and I bought a new one. Is it horizontal lines by chance?

Is it bad if behind my ps3 is over 96 degrees whenever it's on? The TV is also behind it so maybe that's why it's so hot?

I'm at 1080p lcd and I got my HDMI for $30, could that be the problem?

Yeah this happened to me so I rang up Sony and they said that the type of PS3 your using cannot handle the newer games as well as the new PS3s, also it increases the chances of getting the YLOD playing games such as AC2 MW2 ect.

Keep in mind , always skim through the back of the box. Theirs a difference between 1080i and 1080p. As for it being a internal problem. I Would recommend checking all possible settings on your ps3 (MAINLY VIDEO Outputs ) . But if your good with your hands (no H0M0) then look around on the internet for a Blue RAY Player.If all that fails it may be time for a New ps3. Looks like i just made 20$ Paypal
