Notice: Unauthorized circumvention devices for the PlayStation 3 system have been recently released by hackers. These devices permit the use of unauthorized or pirated software. Use of such devices or software violates the terms of the “System Software License Agreement for the PlayStation 3 System” and the “Terms of Services and User Agreement” for the PlayStation Network/Qriocity and its Community Code of Conduct provisions. Violation of the System Software Licence Agreement for the PlayStation 3 System invalidates the consumer guarantee for that system. In addition, copying or playing pirated software is a violation of International Copyright Laws. Consumers using circumvention devices or running unauthorized or pirated software will have access to the PlayStation Network and access to Qriocity services through PlayStation 3 system terminated permanently.
To avoid this, consumers must immediately cease use and remove all circumvention devices and delete all unauthorized or pirated software from their PlayStation 3 systems.

I'm just gonna spend a few weeks with my PS3 internet disconnected until this blows over and/or an exploit is released.

*I MEANT TO SAY HACKERS IN THE TITLE, I'm really stoned right now.*

So how would they know the we are "hacking" if we can get on psn no matter what and pretty much spoof anything they are gonna have to have some idea on who is doing what, and for the amount of time it's taken them to release a statement don't add up, if they was going to ban they would just do it they wouldn't warn us or give us a chance to repent our sins, what Sony ment to say was "ok were not sure what to do so we will scare you into going legit"

You could have just disabled your internet connection on your PS3 and been just as safe.......now you cannot go back.

but they can get sued for storing all there information. and the root kit sony lost a law suit for puting a root kit on there music cds not to long ago

I've been playing killzone 3 all day with connected psn, no bann yet

So basically Sony are saying, "look if you delete all your 1337 homebrew we will give you another chance at being a good consumer, don't worry about the illegally accumulated you was playing we will keep hush about those "
surely if Sony know we are breaking the law by downloading/backing up games and can precisely see who exactly is doing it wouldn't they be obligated to turn them over to the relative authorities? If the didn't then they would be just as much to blame, imagine if all 3rd party developers backed out because of their laid back approach?

Sony does have the right to console ban PS3s with CFW because using CFW goes against the PS3's user agreement... They wont go bankrupt if people sue them because they'll win the law suit
