Sony's Patrick Seybold, Sr. Director of Corporate Communications & Social Media, has confirmed on the Playstation Blog that the downtime of Playstation Network earlier was due to hackers.
An external intrusion on our system has affected our PlayStation Network and Qriocity services. In order to conduct a thorough investigation and to verify the smooth and secure operation of our network services going forward, we turned off PlayStation Network & Qriocity services on the evening of Wednesday, April 20th.
Sony turned off PSN on Wednesday in Europe and the US. On Thursday they commented the service could be "down for days".

Sony was recently under attack by the hacker group Anonymous but those attacks stopped after user outrage.

That hackers can go so far into PSN that Sony sees no other choice than to shut it down completely certainly raises questions regarding security. Mind you: not only game-related information is stored on PSN, but also addresses and credit card info of millions of users is stored...

Im so curious to what they mean exactly.. "An external intrusion on our system" ? People are assuming alot and saying hackers... Are you saying people using rebug and getting free things from the PSN store? 1 guy sitting around that found the location where all the credit card info is stored?? Anonymous was putting on a hurting and they said we are just going to shut it all down ? You have to see that Playstation shut off its own service... well thats what they say anyways... who really knows wtf is going on lol better not take away my sp-int access on rebug or theres going to be hell to pay Winky Winky

They better not screw PSN and not put it back online again, which might happen if they can't get better security.

If sony dont get there act together winthin the next month, I can see that they will be put bottom of the list. They need a whole new system, because there files these days can now be opened with notepad and edited.

Its not good, and I am angry at sony, and these hackers who ruin everything.

I hate hackers, but I respect modders!
