Sony's Patrick Seybold, Sr. Director of Corporate Communications & Social Media, has confirmed on the Playstation Blog that the downtime of Playstation Network earlier was due to hackers.
An external intrusion on our system has affected our PlayStation Network and Qriocity services. In order to conduct a thorough investigation and to verify the smooth and secure operation of our network services going forward, we turned off PlayStation Network & Qriocity services on the evening of Wednesday, April 20th.
Sony turned off PSN on Wednesday in Europe and the US. On Thursday they commented the service could be "down for days".

Sony was recently under attack by the hacker group Anonymous but those attacks stopped after user outrage.

That hackers can go so far into PSN that Sony sees no other choice than to shut it down completely certainly raises questions regarding security. Mind you: not only game-related information is stored on PSN, but also addresses and credit card info of millions of users is stored...

I don't know why they just turn it off, their security will be bypassed again, Anonymous is a Hacking GROUP, they can all combine together and go through PSN security measures they have proved it twice by now, the only thing left to Sony is to agree the terms that Anonymous set up to them to cease the attacks.

You know, Spring Break just came for me. Spring Break for me is the most boring part of the year as nothing goes on. I was hoping to be able to kick back and play my Ps3 just to forget about the crap going on outside of my home.

At least it got me outside a little more but whatever, just suck it up and play offline for a while. 3 days isn't going to kill you, unless your the 15 or so kids around the world who commited suicide because he/she is too addicted to the PS3.

Ye sony say hackers, to hide server problems. Yesterday it was there servers in japan, and now its hackers, ok what ever sony, i dont belive you!

1 thing sony wont do is admit that it is there fault

they will use every trick in the book rather than admit defeat and thats it there own fault

yes of course they are going to bring psn back up..... eventually. do people really think that they are just going to let servers sit around and hibernate? they will bring psn back up eventually and realize that:
#1: the hackers may just do it again.
#2: a billion dollar company should not let this sht happen to their servers.
#3: maybe they should just give up and let ppl do whatever the fck they want with thier ps3's after purchase( if that has any relation to this at all)
#4: they will eventually find the ppl doing this and punish them for it.
so really im just letting you know that YES the psn WILL BE coming back eventually. if it was that easy to destroy sony a lot of people would have already done it lol .
