(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); I'm not sure if any of you have heard but Matthieu of Overfl0w is stating that his exploit is leading to 3.60 Application Keys, rather they are the encrypted keys that allow users to play the games on the disks. This could in turn lead to a 3.60 Custom Firmware release. Perhaps Sony is using the bad-reputation of Anonymous to cover the fact that rather than they being hacked from an 'outside threat', they are in fact doing a employee-only test into a new PSN-core functionality, designed as a countermeasure against Matthieu's exploit.

What we know:
- PSN is currently down (pretty obvious judging by the ShoutBox :carling: )
- Sony states that it is due to an outside threat, however they could just be saying this.
- Matthieu and Overfl0w are currently looking into an exploit that allows 3.60 AKs (Application Keys) and the possibility of 3.60 CFW.
- We already know Sony do not like us running CFW, as we found out in the days of 3.55.

What could this mean:
- They might be developing a "core-functionality" include that detects the a modified firmware file and instantaneously and permanently bans the console from online services.

By core-functionality, I mean something that would inevitably end up on all of our consoles, perhaps a silent update. We know that Sony are very defensive and get all dinosaur about CFW.

What are the signs
-- When PSN comes back online, check for slow internet at the time you sign in and monitor the speed during the first 5-15 minutes after signing in, if the speed is lower than normal could mean your PS3 is silently updating to counter-act the exploit.
-- Check the Wireless Activity monitor, if its blinking and you aren't doing anything online but are signed into PSN, could mean you are being updated.
-- You will probably have to sign a new User Agreement which may have a clause in there that allows them to silently update your console.

This is all a speculation of course. What do you guys think Smile?

everyone is offline, so if everyone signs in at the same time pretty much it should be slow as **** anyway for a while before the servers get less flooded??

No what I mean is, do a Speedtest.net before you sign into PSN. Note the speed down. Then sign in, and after 1 minute, do another speedtest, if it is like a lot lower than it was before, then it means your PS3 is using more bandwidth.

A more failproof way is the Wireless Activity Light on the front of the PS3

Sony will not be able to ban your system from online gameplay. you payed for the system to play that and if they take that away you can sue them. and i dont think they want tons of lawsuits against them

They already put the "silent updating" in the last Agreement.

sure they can do a silent update if they make terms telling it and people doesnt read and just accept. then sony is on the right side. i read those terms closely lol

Actually, it says in the Terms of Use that if you modify the PlayStation system either software or hardware level, you forfeit the right to use the online services, thats why so many 3.55 CFW users got banned

Lol, yeah. Most of the ToUs are just a load of old rubbish that no one but sad lawyers in their yachts want to read.

heres a theory ive been hearing lately, Portal 2 came out on the 19th, right? so its weird that when the game released, the day after PSN servers are down. Ive been told that Portal 2 links to Steam and valve which gives a gateway to the PC world. So it gives a direct link to PSN as if the people of playstation allowed it. Hackers are very smart so they took advantage of this hidden feature on portal 2 and attacked PSN within it, just a theory dont flame on me, i take no credit for this hypothesis.
