Post: Perhaps this is why PSN is down?

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); I'm not sure if any of you have heard but Matthieu of Overfl0w is stating that his exploit is leading to 3.60 Application Keys, rather they are the encrypted keys that allow users to play the games on the disks. This could in turn lead to a 3.60 Custom Firmware release. Perhaps Sony is using the bad-reputation of Anonymous to cover the fact that rather than they being hacked from an 'outside threat', they are in fact doing a employee-only test into a new PSN-core functionality, designed as a countermeasure against Matthieu's exploit.

What we know:
- PSN is currently down (pretty obvious judging by the ShoutBox :carling: )
- Sony states that it is due to an outside threat, however they could just be saying this.
- Matthieu and Overfl0w are currently looking into an exploit that allows 3.60 AKs (Application Keys) and the possibility of 3.60 CFW.
- We already know Sony do not like us running CFW, as we found out in the days of 3.55.

What could this mean:
- They might be developing a "core-functionality" include that detects the a modified firmware file and instantaneously and permanently bans the console from online services.

By core-functionality, I mean something that would inevitably end up on all of our consoles, perhaps a silent update. We know that Sony are very defensive and get all dinosaur about CFW.

What are the signs
-- When PSN comes back online, check for slow internet at the time you sign in and monitor the speed during the first 5-15 minutes after signing in, if the speed is lower than normal could mean your PS3 is silently updating to counter-act the exploit.
-- Check the Wireless Activity monitor, if its blinking and you aren't doing anything online but are signed into PSN, could mean you are being updated.
-- You will probably have to sign a new User Agreement which may have a clause in there that allows them to silently update your console.

This is all a speculation of course. What do you guys think Smile?

As a matter of fact, even if you don't sign into PSN, you've already agreed to their Terms of Use, it says in the manual that it comes with
'Usage of the PlayStation 3 system is subject to the Terms of Use found on : URL HERE'

So no, my reply is not useless. I've studied law, and you think their multi-million dollar lawyers and legal-document drafters don't think about the people who dont sign into PSN. Not everyone has internet. As soon as you turn your PS3 on, you've agreed to their Terms of Use, as stated in the manual.

Out of topic but what college/uni you go to? :P might wanna become a lawer might not Smile

OMG, it's definitely time for you to get back @ school and learn your lessons again...

To make what your saying true, they should present a binding contract on the purshase of every system wish you'll have to sign before taking the console home to use it, otherwise it's just a bunch of crap!

So again, FAIL

You really don't know what you are talking about... do you? So why don't you put a sock in it. Here's something you may want to read Smile

Supplied DIRECTLY from the Instruction Manual that COMES WITH the system.

The term "Product" means the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system ("the PS3™ system") and any official PlayStation®3 peripherals supplied in the box with the PS3™ system. The system software pre-installed in the PS3™ system or subsequently provided via updates or upgrade releases is licensed to you, not sold, and is for use only as part of the PS3™ system. The terms of such system software licence are at You must login or register to view this content..

There it is, the EULA, which also includes the Terms of Service and Terms of Use, if you visit that link Happy

So I suggest you actually get your facts right little boy Smile

@Pocxkidrive
What? if what you said was true, then there would be no use of a ToS.

You click "I agree." when a new ToS comes up, same as signing.

I just said, it says in the manual that usage of the PS3 system is SUBJECT to the Terms of Use. SUBJECT means as soon as you USE the PS3 system (online or not) you are bound to the Terms of Use.

So you can keep saying 'Big Fail' until you are blue in the face, but the only big fail, is you sir xD

So you really are dumb... That's only true if they let you sign a contract upon buying the console, otherwise it's CRAP, at least where i live, maybe different in the UK
