(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Well I thought I would just make this thread to inform you guy's that this YouTube Tutorial does work. You can find that video here:

I can confirm it works. I went to well your "local hardware store" yesterday and bought a Heat gun. It only cost me about $20. So I said hey screw it and I tried it and I had my doubts that it would not work. And you know what it actually did!

So I suggest if you got a "Rare" Ps3 like I do. This method fixed my 60GB Backwards Compatible Ps3 which can Play Ps1, 2 and 3 games. I do not trust that Ps3 and that is why I am putting it on craigslist tmrw saying nothing is wrong w/ it. Sold as is and no warranty. Going to go and sell it at a McDonald's if I get any bites. Awesome face So I just wanted to get it fixed and out of my hands. But yes if you got any Ps3's like this I suggest you try this and if it works sell it and buy something new. Smile

Good call, Reaper. YLOD fix is not permanent and is very unstable. I had a friend who got YLOD, sent it into sony for fixing. A week after getting it back, it got YLOD again. That goes to show that even sony can't fix it. :p

I had YLOD aswell about a month ago did the fix and still going strong using my ps3 every day.

I used a different youtube vid so if u got the YLOD a second time try this 1.

This vid is in 11 parts step by step how to pull it apart reflow it and test it.

But yes I figured it will break after a couple weeks so that is why I am getting rid of it now. Winky Winky

Where did you get the heat gun from? and paste thing where do you think I can get? like Radioshack or something?

I got YLOD after two weeks on the Sony replacement PS3 and its replacement had a blu ray daed on arrival, I got to give them me a 12 month warranty now and they assured me that these PS3's were built from scratch like a new PS3 although with refurbished parts :/

So I can only hope that Sony resoldered the CPU and GPU instead of just heating them.

They could easily fix them properly by using the new CPU's and GPU's on the PS3 slim which give off a lot less heat and with the phat cooling system, it should last a while.

i got a tip for anyone doing this... DO NOT TURN THE PS3 OFF FROM THE BACK AFTER IT IS FIXED!!! it will last longer that way. repaired mine in november (just b4 black ops came out) and it still works! and just fixed a 60gb Smile

Do or Do Not, There is No Try
Sadly this method will not last long when it comes to repair YLOD PS3s. The reball method is the closes to a "permanent" fix. I have several videos, tools needed, and links in my upgrade/repair guide (link in sig) for those that need more help.

If you have the 80GB model, use the videos from the youtube channel called "fixmyplaystation". He shows you how to disassemble, clean both cpu, apply artic silver thermal paste and assemble it back. I used that video for that purpose and this video you posted for the heatgun process.

I agree the reball method is the permanent fix because you replaced the old solder with new ones. But I fixed my YLOD and it lasted for 4 months until I got another YLOD. I fixed again and it hasn't died on me. There is this person who does the rebal method for $150. He has a youtube channel called fixmyplaystation. He has a link to his business site.
