I can confirm it works. I went to well your "local hardware store" yesterday and bought a Heat gun. It only cost me about $20. So I said hey screw it and I tried it and I had my doubts that it would not work. And you know what it actually did!

So I suggest if you got a "Rare" Ps3 like I do. This method fixed my 60GB Backwards Compatible Ps3 which can Play Ps1, 2 and 3 games. I do not trust that Ps3 and that is why I am putting it on craigslist tmrw saying nothing is wrong w/ it. Sold as is and no warranty. Going to go and sell it at a McDonald's if I get any bites. So I just wanted to get it fixed and out of my hands. But yes if you got any Ps3's like this I suggest you try this and if it works sell it and buy something new.
