President of SCEA, Jack Tretton confirms there will be no PS4 at E3 2012

Well, those with high hopes of a new Playstation console emerging this year are
getting put down, again. President of SCEA, Jack Tretton, spoke with IGN yesterday
morning and said that a new console would "distract" the company.

With the Vita being launched for the rest of the world in about a week, announcing a
new console would reduce the companies attention from the Vita. Simply from a business
aspect, sales of the Vita would plummet because consumers would rather buy a new console,
rather than a handheld. Thus the focus of the company would be on the console. Honestly, I
don't blame them. The PS3 is still a strong console with loads of blockbuster hits and exclusives
that are coming out this year. Plus, I'm sure Sony wants to push the Vita into the hands of it
customers for a little while before talks of a new console are made.

With rumors of the next generation Playstation being announced at E3 this year, Tretton was
very fervent in his interview with IGN, reinforcing his previous state-ment that the PS3 will have
a ten year life cycle. Meaning that announcements of a new console probably won't be made until
2016 or so. Although the light of a new Playstation arriving this year is quickly dwindling, consumers
can find comfort in the fact their PS3's have a couple more years until they become obsolete.

Tell me what you guys feel. Do you wish a new PS console would come out this year?
Or would you rather enjoy your PS3 a little while longer?

Not necessarily. If Sony is smart, they'll let Microsoft have some of the thunder for a while.
That way they can perfect and even possibly out do Microsoft. But really, there is no
necessity for it, and Tretton is right. The world doesn't need a new console right now.

Do a barrel roll!
Sony know Microsoft gained a lot of the market share given an early push and an extra year on the market. Well, that and Xbox Live and achievements. I don't want a PS4 just yet, but I think Sony know they can't be far behind the competition. I'd hope for a Q4 2013 launch alongside the new Xbox.

What is their really to add? If they make a PS4, keep the same PSN and make it be multi systyem compatible so lets say cod mw3 we can play it on ps3 and still play with people that have ps4.

Well, this all depends if this is even possible. Not saying it isn't, but it would be a hell
of a lot of work for devs and programmers. And the web-dev team too. Because what if
the PS4 communicates with different servers than the PS3? Then there would be issues
with compatibility and trying to get both systems to communicate to one another. Don't get
me wrong, I like the idea. But its sort of along the same lines as having gameplay across a PS3
and an Xbox.

Well yeah PS3 FTW

Unfortunately, the PS3 will be outdated. Sooner or later. I'm sure
everyone will hold on to theirs, as will I, but after release of the PS4,
majority will eventually buy it.

Well i guess you are right, although I will keep my PS3 and wait for a few months for more new games to release. I'll probaly go to friend's houses to test it, then i will get the PS4 if a new COD comes out.

Not that hard. If it was hard they would have made a new network for the vita and the psp

You lost me :dumb: lol

But on a serious note, PS fans will be lucky if we get
equal treatment on a new COD for once. I personally won't
be buying another installment of the series, but that's just my opinion.

Sorry for double post.

But I'm not quite understanding what you're trying to say? If you're asking
why didn't they, then answer would have to be that it would be completely
unnecessary to do such a thing. The PSP and the Vita aren't Sony's main weapon.
Why would users want a disconnect from the console players? That's the main reason
the PSP and Vita are integrated into the PS3 the way they are with remote play.
