President of SCEA, Jack Tretton confirms there will be no PS4 at E3 2012

Well, those with high hopes of a new Playstation console emerging this year are
getting put down, again. President of SCEA, Jack Tretton, spoke with IGN yesterday
morning and said that a new console would "distract" the company.

With the Vita being launched for the rest of the world in about a week, announcing a
new console would reduce the companies attention from the Vita. Simply from a business
aspect, sales of the Vita would plummet because consumers would rather buy a new console,
rather than a handheld. Thus the focus of the company would be on the console. Honestly, I
don't blame them. The PS3 is still a strong console with loads of blockbuster hits and exclusives
that are coming out this year. Plus, I'm sure Sony wants to push the Vita into the hands of it
customers for a little while before talks of a new console are made.

With rumors of the next generation Playstation being announced at E3 this year, Tretton was
very fervent in his interview with IGN, reinforcing his previous state-ment that the PS3 will have
a ten year life cycle. Meaning that announcements of a new console probably won't be made until
2016 or so. Although the light of a new Playstation arriving this year is quickly dwindling, consumers
can find comfort in the fact their PS3's have a couple more years until they become obsolete.

Tell me what you guys feel. Do you wish a new PS console would come out this year?
Or would you rather enjoy your PS3 a little while longer?

I love all gaming consoles they both are unique in their own ways,

But I have a feeling..this is just my theory but since ms new about the new handheld console coming out they had to start working on the 720,
witch will slow down sony's customers down alot if they announce they are coming out with a new console within the next year,
cause think about it..if they did that, sony would be losing money as well as having to come up with the money for playstations new console.

I also think the hardware needs an upgrade. At least to be able to handle 1080p 3d at 60fps. Better security on software. We need a new system I think. HOWEVER ill agree 2012 is too soon. But I better hear something by 2013. And 10 years is too long for any hardware. Nothing else in electronics last that long without at least a revisional upgrade. Id like to a pc thats 10 years old play new games without new hardware. It just doesn't happen.

Actually PS2 has been going for 12 years now. They can still be bought off stores at big retailers.

Yes but the ps3 was available well within the 10 year period. They are saying NO new console within ten years. For that matter my walmart still has unopened new n64s in stock lol. I still think we at least need a console that can handle 1080p 3d at 30the fps solidly better directx capabilities, improved shaders, a system and os that can handle party chat as well as multitasking, an app system, and quadlayer bluest capabilities which could be done and done now for a fairly reasonable price and still sold at a consumer level with a profit margin for Sony.

New ram is expected to be released later this year or next year that will make what we have look like crap. Honestly, I see 2014-2015 for a new console. The hardware keeps getting cheaper and with where we are, by then we can come close to a computer that is running nowadays in a couple years on a console.

Not really sure on who, but I read an article. I read it about a month or two ago and I bet there is more information on it, might research it again.
