And over the next two to three years, the PS3 has got an incredible lineup,” he said.

“We're going to continue supporting the PS3 for the next few years. Absolutely. And we're going to continue supporting it not only that long, but as long as there is a development spigot that's running hot,” Koller says. “Same thing with PS2... it's kind of stuck around as that old warrior, many years after its launch. But there's still games launching for it.”

The Playstation 2, which launched back in 2000, still has a few games released for it each year. As long as developer interest continues to exist for the Playstation 3 after 2015, Sony will continue to support it as long as necessary.

Whether or not this news changes your opinion about the new super-slim Playstation 3, it's promising to know that Sony will back the PS3 for many years to come, and not abandon it when the next-generation Playstation rolls around.

The day that games consoles no longer use disks is the day I stop using games consoles! If you buy a game on a disk then you can trade it in after you have finished with it. If all games are download only then you can't trade them in afterwards! Also the games on PSN are VERY expensive! I bought L.A. Noire Complete Edition yesterday in my local supermarket and only paid £15 for it! PSN are selling it for £25.99!! They are having a laugh with their prices! When Sony move to only download games and no disks.. I stop using Playstation!
