And over the next two to three years, the PS3 has got an incredible lineup,” he said.

The You must login or register to view this content. super-slim Playstation 3 will hit the shelves next month. Some gamers have already come to the conclusion that the purchase of the new PS3 model would be in vain, as the next generation of consoles is likely to be announced in the near future.

“We're going to continue supporting the PS3 for the next few years. Absolutely. And we're going to continue supporting it not only that long, but as long as there is a development spigot that's running hot,” Koller says. “Same thing with PS2... it's kind of stuck around as that old warrior, many years after its launch. But there's still games launching for it.”

The Playstation 2, which launched back in 2000, still has a few games released for it each year. As long as developer interest continues to exist for the Playstation 3 after 2015, Sony will continue to support it as long as necessary.

Whether or not this news changes your opinion about the new super-slim Playstation 3, it's promising to know that Sony will back the PS3 for many years to come, and not abandon it when the next-generation Playstation rolls around.

I think we should get minecraft on ps3. Erm Sony should forget about the ps3 lasting till 2015 because if there is no ps4 b4 then most will go to xbox720. So sony need to have something special planned for the ps4 because if they feel the ps3 will still be better than xbox720 then they aren't thinking straight. But having said that they obviously dont think theres nothing new out there or coming out till after 2015 to make the ps4 be bigger and better than xbox720 or 360. I mean i read some were that sony want the best graphics ever for the ps4 with a high spec motherboard and what not but i guess we will wait and see.

The new xbox will take longer than scheduled cuz they got trouble with processor, so i think ps4 will come first, well i hope so xD

And of course they will continue with ps3, as long as they earn money, why should they stop it? Also the ps4 will probably be quite expensive so most kids or jobless people will wait till its cheaper n stay on ps3

I will only get the superslim if its priced accordingly. I can get the existing PS3 2nd hand with a 1TB hard drive for 120 GBP.. only reason I would want another PS3 is so I could CFW my existing PS3 (for trophy hacking) and use the superslim as my OFW machine. If they are asking too much money or it.. then I won't bother.

Regarding support for PS2 games.. the games they release suck! I still have many original PS2 games (and 3 PS2's, 2 of which still boxed UNOPENED) and out of all the PS2 games I have.. possibly 3 of them are on the PSN! If they released all the games I have for the PS2 on the PSN then they would sell a lot more of them to me! When I see PS2 games on the PSN I just think "WTF is this!?! Never heard of that game!" and with the price of second hand PS3 games that have trophy support and the price of PS2 games without trophy support.. theres no point spending the cash.

If Sony adds that fingerprint ID to the PS4 then i am moving to xbox.. so they will lose me as a loyal customer since the original PSX simply because of their greed.

I want the PS3 super slim because the slim has some cooling issues, but i don't feel like paying more money for something I already have. At the same time I wonder if the super slim will have more cooling problems.

I just had a thought.. I WON'T be buying a super slim PS3.. I have 2 PS3's as it is. If I exchange my PS3 fat for a superslim then I won't be able to download my paid for content from the PSN store because I have already downloaded it to both my current PS3s.. so if I bought the superslim I would have to buy the same content again? To hell with that! hahaha

And as for cooling issues.. I have a laptop cooler underneath my PS3 thats quiet and does a great job of keeping it cold Smile
