(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); If you want to upgrade your PS4 hard-drive read this!

I installed a Seagate 1TB Solid State Hybrid Drive SATA 6Gbps 64MB Cache 2.5-Inch ST1000LM014, and kept getting

an error message "CE-34788-0." At first I thought is was a HD compatibility issue, but I was wrong.

You have to install the FULL version firmware 1.51, which can be found here:

You must login or register to view this content.

The standard 1.51 upgrade version is ~ 315MB (and will not work!), the full version is 850MB (and needed for hard drive upgrades).

Save the 850MB 1.51 firmware file to a USB Drive: "PS4/UPDATE", boot up in safe mode, and select "Initialize PS4 (Reinstall System Software)"

Insructions here: You must login or register to view this content.

Hope this saves you some time--my experience was a bit frustrating until I found the correct firmware file.

--The new drive works great, and I have over 850GB of free space with the PS4 O/S, COD Ghosts, Need For Speed Rivals installed on the new HD.

just so everyone knows ,
you can use a sata extension cable and a 3.5" Esata external HDD , just fine !

I have been experimenting with it , and it will detect it , just be sure the Esta hdd bay has its own power !

I posted a video or two in my other post back a page or so , basic same idea - same thing !

EDIT :

yellow is always the 12v that need its own power source & turned on first !

Perhaps once I get my Esata raid0 tower I will post a tutorial or something ...

I'm going to be quiet honest , I simply don't have the patience to help people anymore.

That is a good video there as well ,
He limits the ps3 to 1tb / Im not sure what the ps4 will format too.
my first guess would be 2.5TB which is last for standard file systems ,
yes 3TB uses a different kernel ....
The other guy in his video stated he thought it was a linux HFS2 system which is only 2TB "I think"
so really the main question still exist , how much will it format .. haha :(

ive copied this of another forum. from a user who was complaing about the same problem. i dont know if its true.

I think I may have found the issue related to why you are getting this error! You have to have a two gig or less usb stick formatted to FAT32 with block size 4KB or less to get it to update on your system. There is a know support issue related to machines seeing over 2 GB in the Microsoft Windows architechture and I'm pretty sure this issue is relevant with PS4. I changed out my hard drive and kept receiving this error on a 8, 16, 32, and 64 GB usb sticks and thought all was lost. Then I went here You must login or register to view this content. and looked up FAT32 requirements and pulled out an old 2 GB usb stick and formated it as stated before. I was then able to update my PS4 in accordance with the instructions off of the website. I think the usb issue will continue until Sony puts out some official guidance on the size limitations of FAT32 and why it is a dead file system that should not be used on a modern console for updates.
