(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); If you want to upgrade your PS4 hard-drive read this!

I installed a Seagate 1TB Solid State Hybrid Drive SATA 6Gbps 64MB Cache 2.5-Inch ST1000LM014, and kept getting

an error message "CE-34788-0." At first I thought is was a HD compatibility issue, but I was wrong.

You have to install the FULL version firmware 1.51, which can be found here:

You must login or register to view this content.

The standard 1.51 upgrade version is ~ 315MB (and will not work!), the full version is 850MB (and needed for hard drive upgrades).

Save the 850MB 1.51 firmware file to a USB Drive: "PS4/UPDATE", boot up in safe mode, and select "Initialize PS4 (Reinstall System Software)"

Insructions here: You must login or register to view this content.

Hope this saves you some time--my experience was a bit frustrating until I found the correct firmware file.

--The new drive works great, and I have over 850GB of free space with the PS4 O/S, COD Ghosts, Need For Speed Rivals installed on the new HD.

I think I may have found the issue related to why you are getting this error! You have to have a two gig or less usb stick formatted to FAT32 with block size 4KB or less to get it to update on your system.

all sorted now :y:
and that about under 2gb isnt correct, as im using a 16gb - installing now

seems my windows 8 laptop wasnt formatting the USB properly.

Nice thread, I'm sure this will help out a bunch of people Claps And good job on adding in the links too, I think eventually when I purchase a PS4, I will put in a 1TB hard drive too!

what can i say.... the PS4 is just REALLY REALLY PICKY

you might want to gather all the usb flash drives you can find at home, and have a whole afternoon free, before attempting replacing your ps4 hdd. having ps plus helps, so u can restore saved files from the network.

tried 2 sony 16gb usb sticks, didnt work, tried various things, exFAT, FAT32, win7, winxp, partition magic, freeware formatting programs, left and right usb ports, usb hubs, usb extension cables etc....

tried data traveller usb 8gb didnt work either.

used the PS3 GAMEGENIE usb stick (oops!) which was formatted in FAT, not FAT32. in right usb port of a UK PS4. worked flawlessly.

its a 1GB stick, so maybe smaller sized drives will increase the chance of success (even though some people have reported that a 16GB usb did work for them)

if u get error 30774-1 it means your usb is fine, but the update file is missing, wrong, or wrongly named.
