it worked out nicely.
it took longer to update the firmware and itunes than to jailbreak.

Yo I tried this yesterday and 8GB models of the itouch (MC models) from late 2009 WILL NOT work with this method.

Thanks. thats the iPod touch 3g. pr0z you should update you thread to make shure that they are aware that it doesen't work for ol ipod touch 3g

also, not all the 3rd party apps are up to date with the new ios. they haven't updated to 4.0 yet.
