Instead of looking in and around Modern Warfare 2. Why not take a look into the system itself and what all the PS3 Hacking teams have done in the last 3 Years.

That should easily get you on the right track.

With TheUnkn0wn's recent bit of advice, and going through several older threads I came across this quote from hunter:

Has anybody done this on firmware 3.30? I'm able to do it on 3.15 and 3.21 but on FW 3.30 i can't find the dummy data ANYWERE every sector is different including the first sectors unlike my other 2 ps3's the beggining sectors where all the same.

The reason why i want to know is because i have working modded game patches, and i want to be able to do this on my other ps3 i can go online with, but 3.30 just seems like they might have fixed this... All the data is just scattered though out the whole hdd every sector is different.

Then he later replied with:

I don't think it does, i found the dummy data then did everything else when it came time to copy the music file[/I][/U] back to the ext hdd you get a copy error or it copies everything but the data you want.

-----

Maybe there is an exploit or something within the music tab on the PS3 menu.

I don't know if this seems logic, or if it has been posted before. But it has been dwelling on my mind for quite a while, and I thought it was time to share my thoughts.

I honestly hate when people say something like that.

"I know but won't tell" First, if you're not gonna say anything, don't post that.

Second, if you truly knew, you would have modded lobbies.

Not saying anymore :(, Try not to leak so much info

maybe you have to MAKE THE SPOT FOR THE FILE. and then put the dummy in that file you made?

Sounds more to me like Infectus. Which could be used for dumping the nand, but somehow that was patched if what I read was correct.

I don't know what sector 2 is, but I think it has something to do with this...

Is this pointing towards the TIFF exploit, but instead of a picture file he uses an Mp3 file?

"copy the music file back to the ext hdd."

Yes there may be dedicated threads, yes you may find yourself superior to others with your special orange user name. But seriously, stop aiming for that +1 post count.

Agreed! without theories comes no progression.

Yes, but there is a difference between theories and spouting off the first thing that comes to mind.

With even just a little look into the HDD decryption method, you would have seen what Hunter was talking about, and would have known that it was part of the decryption process. Your research wasn't thorough, it was hasty and biased. Without leaving the loop, there is no progression.

So, let me get this straight, you knew there were dedicated threads, and yet, you posted a new thread for it? Because you wanted it to be seen, right?

Think about this for a minute: In a situation like this, everyone is trying to figure this out as soon as possible. The first person to release it to the public becomes famous, a celebrity. So, instead of posting the theories in the theory thread, the ideas are strewn all about the forums, because everyone thinks their ideas need to be recognized, because their ideas are better than everyone else's. Exactly why does your idea deserve it's own thread? Who is finding themselves superior now? (I would insert the clapping smiley here, but personally, I can't stand it when someone else does it to me, so here, have a pedo bear) :pedo:

Also, you do realize that you're not only insulting a member who donated to the site, but you are insulting them BECAUSE they donated to the site, don't you?

And I really doubt he's looking to merely get an extra post. Some users are getting annoyed at all of the hastily thrown together "theories" that are cluttering up these forums. Granted, the comment was off topic, but it was better than creating another thread for it, wasn't it?

The reason I posted the quotes regarding the encryption / decryption exploit was to show that there were exploits in the PS3 system itself. Maybe there is a way to load modded game patches in the format of a music / picture file for the game to read it as a a game file. I don't know if this would be possible, that's the reason why I posted.

On regard to your comment as to why I created a new thread. I did this as at the time the discussion threads regarding theories were just flame wars telling Hunter and 'Unkn0wn where to get off, as per usual. So I took the initiative and made a theory on 'Unkn0wn's new advice instead of it getting burried under countless flaming posts.

Why should a premium member assume they are superior and tell others what and what not to do? Yes they may have donated to the site to aid with server costs etc', but be realistic, the only reason they have donated is to have access to the premium exploit / hacking sections.
