I would like to agree with you but the fact is there were no death streaks in CoD4 and yet the anticipation and hype helped smash sales records with MW2. In Black Ops there were no death streaks either and that too managed to smash sales records. Fact is, CoD is just running on name alone and even if MW3 didn't have death streaks it would have made billions upon launch. Give a bad player any sort of help and they immediately have a sense of entitlement brought upon by crutches to help inflate their e-peen. If only people could face the reality that they simply just suck.
This is IW's own fault for setting such an awful precedent. There was no public outcry for deathstreaks and support and yet they willingly put it in themselves knowing what it would do the playerbase. Now its time for them to suffer the consequences of such poor decision making.
Mw2 had death streaks and mw2 was the call of duty that call of duty over took halo and dominated the market. And yes mw3 would have made billions reguard less however what they want is people to enjoy playing so much they'll buy another.
A great term my dad used to tell me when I was starting my business that I am the owner of. "If your not growing, then your dieing." Put simply if there not getting more people (mainstream) then there dieing.
Example -
1. Average person buys Mw3 no death streaks no support streaks they never get a streak die 20 times in a row can't get 1 kill. Are they going to buy the next game hell no.
2. Average person buys mw3 which has death streaks + support they get to call in emp + support bomber's and get dead mans hand. While it's not guarnteed they'll buy the next Cod the odds are greatly increased.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 may have been the best-selling title of last year, but sometimes the first month of sales don't tell the whole story.
According to the January 2012's NPD figures,
Modern Warfare 3 was able to sell a total of
386,000 during the month, fueled by a commercial with three celebrities and zero gameplay footage. To another series that would be great, but Call of Duty is held to a different standard.
Call of Duty: Black Ops sold
750,000 units during the month of January last year, meaning that it nearly doubled the sales of Modern Warfare 3.
The question is: is this a sign of Modern Warfare 3 having shorter legs than its predecessors? Battlefield 3 put up a strong fight with sales totaling over 10 million, and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive just around the corner ready for an AWP headshot. While the competition is is greater than previous years, it sounds like more than anything that Call of Duty fatigue is beginning to set-in.

I was busy talking to others in this thread so here's my reasoning as to why your logic is flawed.
1. You say that Black Ops sold more copies in "January" then MW3
2. What you fail to realize is so many people bought MW3 earlier on November - Dec that they didn't need to buy the game because they already had it.
3. It actually means that MW3 is widely more liked then Black Ops because people bought the game earlier on.
