(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 may have been the best-selling title of last year, but sometimes the first month of sales don't tell the whole story.

According to the January 2012's NPD figures, Modern Warfare 3 was able to sell a total of 386,000 during the month, fueled by a commercial with three celebrities and zero gameplay footage. To another series that would be great, but Call of Duty is held to a different standard. Call of Duty: Black Ops sold 750,000 units during the month of January last year, meaning that it nearly doubled the sales of Modern Warfare 3.

The question is: is this a sign of Modern Warfare 3 having shorter legs than its predecessors? Battlefield 3 put up a strong fight with sales totaling over 10 million, and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive just around the corner ready for an AWP headshot. While the competition is is greater than previous years, it sounds like more than anything that Call of Duty fatigue is beginning to set-in.

Expect the unexpected!
MW3 sold more than Black ops when it came out so less figures afterwards. So now that More people have MW3 than Black ops that means less people can buy it now

1. They want to cater to the average person who is busy work/friends/girlfriend etc.. The average person only has 1 or 2 hours to play a day.
2. They realized due to this they won't be that good so how do they make them want to play they give them easy killstreak's example death streaks + support kill streaks.
3. Let's face it when you do terrible at a game you don't want to play the better you do the more odds are you want to play.

I would like to agree with you but the fact is there were no death streaks in CoD4 and yet the anticipation and hype helped smash sales records with MW2. In Black Ops there were no death streaks either and that too managed to smash sales records. Fact is, CoD is just running on name alone and even if MW3 didn't have death streaks it would have made billions upon launch. Give a bad player any sort of help and they immediately have a sense of entitlement brought upon by crutches to help inflate their e-peen. If only people could face the reality that they simply just suck.

This is IW's own fault for setting such an awful precedent. There was no public outcry for deathstreaks and support and yet they willingly put it in themselves knowing what it would do the playerbase. Now its time for them to suffer the consequences of such poor decision making.

Except they have compromised the overall quality of the game by catering to these new players. Sure they will make a quick buck now but by doing so they have polluted the community. By ignoring the players who built the community they are essentially forfeiting any long time survivability of CoD. The noobs have brought the game after how many years? They will be the first to jump ship onto the next big thing.

So you say things while I didn't even tell you what was my 1sy COD game ? Therefore as of now all you said above is invalid lol

Mw2 had death streaks and mw2 was the call of duty that call of duty over took halo and dominated the market. And yes mw3 would have made billions reguard less however what they want is people to enjoy playing so much they'll buy another.

A great term my dad used to tell me when I was starting my business that I am the owner of. "If your not growing, then your dieing." Put simply if there not getting more people (mainstream) then there dieing.

Example -
1. Average person buys Mw3 no death streaks no support streaks they never get a streak die 20 times in a row can't get 1 kill. Are they going to buy the next game hell no.
2. Average person buys mw3 which has death streaks + support they get to call in emp + support bomber's and get dead mans hand. While it's not guarnteed they'll buy the next Cod the odds are greatly increased.

I was busy talking to others in this thread so here's my reasoning as to why your logic is flawed.

1. You say that Black Ops sold more copies in "January" then MW3
2. What you fail to realize is so many people bought MW3 earlier on November - Dec that they didn't need to buy the game because they already had it.
3. It actually means that MW3 is widely more liked then Black Ops because people bought the game earlier on.

I'm leaving COD, MW3 is the last time i buy a COD game. After playing some Gears of Wars on 360 and BF3, i changed my mind about IW and Treyarch. They the same stuff every year. They say they are balancing the game, but the only thing they're balancing are their savings accounts. I'm leaving if COD 9game is the same rerun.

Next year is the year..
Just because people didn't buy it in January doesn't mean it's dying. It's about total sales..
Maybe everyone who wanted the game had already bought it in november and december

Its only dying for people that have played it every year.
Every year the game is the same and alot of us say we are finally done but we all buy it again.
Its not dying

I think people are getting bored of the "map packs" added every year into a whole new game. COD is the only mainstream game now that doesn't run at 720p, with all that money Activision make, you'd think they'd use it up the ante.
