(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 may have been the best-selling title of last year, but sometimes the first month of sales don't tell the whole story.

According to the January 2012's NPD figures, Modern Warfare 3 was able to sell a total of 386,000 during the month, fueled by a commercial with three celebrities and zero gameplay footage. To another series that would be great, but Call of Duty is held to a different standard. Call of Duty: Black Ops sold 750,000 units during the month of January last year, meaning that it nearly doubled the sales of Modern Warfare 3.

The question is: is this a sign of Modern Warfare 3 having shorter legs than its predecessors? Battlefield 3 put up a strong fight with sales totaling over 10 million, and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive just around the corner ready for an AWP headshot. While the competition is is greater than previous years, it sounds like more than anything that Call of Duty fatigue is beginning to set-in.

Mw2 had death streaks and mw2 was the call of duty that call of duty over took halo and dominated the market. And yes mw3 would have made billions reguard less however what they want is people to enjoy playing so much they'll buy another.

A great term my dad used to tell me when I was starting my business that I am the owner of. "If your not growing, then your dieing." Put simply if there not getting more people (mainstream) then there dieing.

Example -
1. Average person buys Mw3 no death streaks no support streaks they never get a streak die 20 times in a row can't get 1 kill. Are they going to buy the next game hell no.
2. Average person buys mw3 which has death streaks + support they get to call in emp + support bomber's and get dead mans hand. While it's not guarnteed they'll buy the next Cod the odds are greatly increased.

No offense, but that is a terrible mantra to live by. Sure a business should grow and profit but throwing away their integrity and quality of their products will only doom it. Look at the dot com crash from the early 2000s. There were a lot of businesses that produced some pretty decent sites. But they over-emphasized growth and not the quality and soon the bubble burst. Now look at sites like askjeeves. Hell look at Yahoo.

People didn't have any expectations of deathstreaks before MW2. So by adding it they shot themselves in the foot. Prior to that nobody was lobbying them to give them bonuses for dying; that was something they decided on their own without any actual input from their community and now look what has happened. The community is completely divided with the original players moving onto other shooters while the casuals may or may not buy next year's game. Besides Treyarch has proved with Black Ops that a CoD without deathstreaks and support will still sell well so to say that the casuals will instantly drop it if they hear of the removal of deathstreaks is baseless.

Honestly it isn't like this is something new. All we have to do is look back at MoH and they faced the exact same scenario. Now we are stuck with a mediocre reboot that most people bought in hopes of getting into BF3's beta early. It may not be next year or even the year after but without any swift changes the CoD franchise is going to fall and it going to fall fast.

Yeah I should probably stop before I embarrass the life-long CoD fan who probably has never even played United Offensive.

Oh I didn't mean the motto was "If your not growing (making the mainstream like you) your dieing" I was saying that was COD's example of what my business motto is. "If your not growing your dieing" How you grow can be in many different ways whether it be by keeping to never going mainstream / going main stream/ selling products low the list goes on. The general rule is

1. If your not growing then your dieing (can grow in anyway possible however you choose to get more people the fact is if your not getting more people your falling)

One of these "COD sycks even tho I play to final prestige every year" threads. Every COD cycle goes like this:

This COD game sucks.
The next one will be great.
COD game outsells previous.
Current COD sucks, previous was great. COD4 is jesus.

COD gamers are like those girls who btich about their ahole boyfriends yet rarely leave them.
