(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); just like the title says, where will ilya kovalchuk go?

he refused to stay in atlanta even though they offered him 100 million $ over 10 years, and supposedly the islanders are willing to offer the same amount. reports say the devils are interested and i personally think they have the best shot, but there have also been rumours of him maybe going to the kings. if the price got dropped, the leafs said they would be more interested. so where do you think he will go?

i know most of you are not hockey fans, but im sure someone is on these forums. Smile

because they made a contract worth 102 million overall for like 15 years

But they were gonna pay him more money then his average in the start of the contract, and next to nothing at the end, so they can free up cap space.
Chicago did it with Hossa, so NJD should be able to do it with Kovalchuk

About a few hours ago the NHLPA filed a grievance on behalf of Ilya Kovalchuk, their trying to get the league to accept the contract.

And it was 17 years for like 101 mill and change,

And they will. Keith has a contract like this, Franzen does too, Hossa as you mentioned.

The NHL had no reason to step in on this particular contract. There is no way that the NHLPA loses to the NHL in this case, although some drastic changes have to be made to the CBA. Probably a rule where the yearly cap hit can't be 20%+/-then the overall cap hit.

NHL thinks he wont play all the time he has been signed for so they have asked for the team to come up with a new deal and it will be done soon

Luongo's contract takes him to 43 years old, doesn't it?

The NHL has no leg to stand on. Kovy will probably re-negotiate the contract, but if it goes to the hearing the NHL can't win.

The Ilya Kovalchuk contract situation is expected to be resolved today. An independent arbitrator is scheduled to rule today on whether or not Kovlachuk's 17-year, $102 million contract will stand, or be voided. If the deal is struck down, the 27-year old will become an unrestricted free agent.

i read that off tsn

but i agree, the nhl is being dumb, they let other huge contracts stay but not kovalchuk's? maybe a bias reason?
