Rep is the downfall of NGU, people are afraid to voice their opinions because of the worry of their rep being deducted by users.
I for one think it should be removed, what do you think?

Looks like there are 2 basic issues.
1;How to keep and aquire more membership and promote constructive involvement on the site. Rep has been a intrical part of the measurement of involvement and value by the membership since its inception. The problem of boosting has always existed but has become more apparent in the last 6 months. And increased rep count enables increased rep value.
2: an evualtion and general membership vote on the current rep system unfairly penalizes those members with senority and long commitment to the site.Most of these want to promote increased membership and involvement on the site, but not at the expense of their current measurement of value to the community.
Consider freezing rep where is stood 6 months ago( some recent members may be admittedly hurt by this, but an evalution group of senior members could create an exceptions list of recent, worthy, high rep members for consideration of an exception).
Start giving out thanks and groan points only, as suggested in other posts.
Senior members would maintain their rep ablilty, at a reduced and equal rate.
A senior group or the admins could establish a new points total that would put new members into the seniors club. Based on total points aquired,length of membership, and total contribution to the site.
There is no way to make everyone happy about this issue. And frankly I don't care about rep, but by the size of this and other posts it is important to many new and old members and there should be some reasonable measure of your involvement with the site with some form of restriction on aquiring rep for rep's sake.
Or you could just leave it remain as it is.
Either way I will continue to use it as I have in the past and I suspect that many others will too.
