Hmm. I heard that too but dont know if its true. but if it is Stretch ALOT before lifting. if you stretch as a kid/teen when you grow taller. i heard if you do it ALOTTT you can get bout 4-6 extra inches by the end of your growth spout. and i think your supposed to take protein shakes before lifting cause it helps your muscles get bigger
Oh and muscle milk is good to help gain it too.

I dunno about it stunting your growth but I imagine it won't do your body any good. At your age your body is still developing. Both growing in up and out. Doing full on training, such as everything then I could see it being bad for your body and muscles. But just doing dumbells on your arms, I can't see it doing much. But then, you would only have big arms and small chest, legs, neck and shoulders in comparison. It would be better to ask your doctor rather than people on the internet who have no idea what we're talking about.

I'm short too.Outie But I think I know for a fact weight lifting will make your muscles big but will just keep you small and make you look weird.

I've been going for a long time now, and when i started i always lifted weight that i could lift atleast 15 times, so if you lift something and you can lift it 15 times you should be good but if you can't i suggest you lower the weight untill you actualy can lift it 15 times Winky Winky

Crumpets and tea?
Weight lifting at a young age does not stunt your growth and thats a fact.
Olympic Weight Lifters who aspire to getting to the top all start lifting weights at a young age and if you check them out you will find that most of them are over 6ft.

The myth of stunt growth originates from this. Children & adolescents have growth plate at the end of most bones. Growth plate regulates the length & shape of bones. Bone grows around growth plates, not from the center outward.

Your Growth plates are the last part of bones to harden. This makes it more vulnerable to fractures which can cause problems like unequal bone length. Weight lifting can stunt your growth if you damage your growth plates.

The point is you don’t get hit on your ankles & knees during weight lifting like with Soccer. You don’t get collisions like in Football. The only way you can fracture your bones is by letting weights fall on you which shouldn't happen if you train with weight correctly.

I'm going into athletic training so I looked at this a bit. You should be fine even with creatine as long as you take the amounts it says to on the label, and you can lift without having to worry about stunting your growth. It's like that saying with coffee too, it's just a scare tactic with no basis in fact.
--also: make sure you have someone show you how to properly use all equipment, and how to do exercises properly. And it helps if you set up for yourself a workout plan.

IMPORTANT:always check with your doctor before undertaking any form of excercise .why u ask?..
well, for a start,it never hurts to do so because..

a)there are some things we may not know about our bodies internal workings..for example; after a blood test some people may find that
they are anaemic.
Anaemia is a deficiency in the number or quality of red blood cells. Lack of iron is common in anaemic people.Symptoms include tiredness, breathlessness and pale skin. Treatment may include iron supplements.
this condition does not go well with weight training as it is the total opposite.weight training requires all those factors(in italic) lacking in anaemic individuals.
b) have a full check-up with your doctor to make sure your body is in tip-top condition before you start any physical training.

Ok,just for ur info,i used to be a bodybuilder and i think i'm qualified to answer ur question lol..been lifting weights for more than 10 years...there is a lot to learn and know about weight training..not just the weight themselves, but body mechanics(how the body/muscles function),nutrition, types of weight training excercises etc..and we haven't even lifted a single weight yet.lol
yeah, there's a lot of knowledge involved, and it ain't simple either, especially when it comes to the human body.

Now,for someone your age,you can pretty much do any and every excercise there is available.
BUT,and this is IMPORTANT.
the AMOUNT of WEIGHT you lift.
think about it,you're not training to be a bodybuilder nor for the olympics weightlifting right? Therefore you don’t need to lift as much as your muscles can handle.i see guys in gyms do it all the time, showing off to the ladies lifting heavy weights without any form inviting injury or death.

see,at 13 yrs of age, your body is still in its growing stage.
take it easy, give your body time to grow and mature.
excercising WON’T stunt your growth, rather, it will enhance your growth.

you'll see a tonne of pills, powders, vitamins at your local health food/bodybuilding store.i used to take the lot,you name it I’ve probably tried it lol.(except for roids as I was a natural bodybuilder, not relying on drugs)
everyone has their own personal opinion on them.some say they’re miracle powders/pills,some say they a waste of money.
Me? I wouldn’t worry too much about them as they’re quite expensive as well.the other thing is you really don't know what is put into making these "powders".
Stick with your proper foods like beef, chicken, eggs, fish for protein and pasta, rice potatoes for carbohydrates.I find that I gain more weight eating these foods than powders and pills.I would only recommend a protein powder and multivitamins.
Protein powders are best taken right after a weight training session to quickly assist your body in its recovery process as nothing does it faster.
And multivitams taken daily to replenish all the minerals and trace minerals lost during training.

Mate, you’ve just embarked on a very expensive hobby, lol.
If you’re serious about weight training, learn all you can on the stuff I was talking about earlier..like types of excercises, nutrition, body mechanics(how your body/muscles function) and I must stress as well to learn proper form when you’re training.what’s proper form u ask?
Proper form is the right way to execute a particular training exercise, otherwise you’re inviting injury.and once you’re injured,it’s a tough hard road to recovery.
Like I said I’ve been training for more than 10 yrs and I’ve never been injured, that’s because of using proper form.

PS.no offence to some of the posters regarding this subject,if you’ve never lifted weights or have little knowledge about weight training, please don’t misinform or give uneducated advise as it would direct him in the wrong direction.like one person advised "not to lift weights over your head" is just one example.

There is a massive amount of knowledge to be learned if you’re serious, and right now is a great time for you to start.you’re young, got internet, the whole world is at your fingertips.get crackin!
If you need anymore advise on anything related to weight training I’d be more than happy to answer your questions Smile

Good Luck mate Smile
