Most gamers argue about which console is better, or which has a better online gaming service. Most would say Xbox Live is better, since you must pay for their service to play online.

Well, our friends at Joysiq got some amazing numbers from Sony at the press conference at CES.

Sony CEO Howard Stringer explained that 60 million Playstation Network accounts have been made, while only 30 million (Free and Gold) Xbox Live accounts have been made.

Joystiq notes that this includes users on a PS3, PSP, and people who have created Playstation Network accounts online without actually touching a console or handheld.

What do you think? Is this a fair lead?

Console sales is still the better measurement of success and the one they are not mentioning because they are still well behind Nintendo but closing the gap on Xbox.
Units sold ( just primary gaming consoles, does not include handhelds) as of 1-1-2011
Wii= 84.4 million
Xbox= 50.5 million
PS3 = 46.0 million

As other have stated, PSN lets you set up multiple accounts for free.
Although I like PS3 better for all around features.

Considering XBOX has been out longer and how many of them have been banned or died. It seems like the PS3 was the peoples choice out of the two.

Well I it may have more PSN's then Gamertags, but then again, I have 5 psn's yet only 1 gamertag. The reason is because I can just create a new, free account on my playstation, but I have to pay for a new account on the xbox.

Mr.Kane
Greatness
This does not mean the following:
60 million people have ps3's
60 million people have online on a ps3.

i myself have made about 15 accounts on my ps3, god knows how many other peopel make accounts just for the fun of it. My mate had a new one each day almost as he found MW2 boring.
