That's not an explanation, you just restated the question. If you don't like that analogy then how about: "Why can't matter be created or destroyed?" It just can't. There's no particular reason for it to be true - it just is.

These are completely different from what you're asking. These are "how" questions. You keep asking "why" questions. (Also, I should hope that there is indeed more than one dimension - it would suck to have no height or width.)
