(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); In school we had a debate on whether or not the atomic bomb was necessary/justified to drop on Japan. It was very interesting to see what people actually knew on the issue. Personally, I am in the middle, but currently leaning some against it.

Are you sure?

I read somewhere at if we didn't, We would lose 6 million lives all together

Thats bull. More importantly we could have just used a blockade and let their resources dwindle to absolute nothing at that point.

I looked around and couldn't find anything on this, mind sharing your source?

In a broadcast from Tokyo the next day, August 10, the Japanese government announced its readiness to accept the joint American-British "unconditional surrender" declaration of Potsdam, "with the understanding that the said declaration does not compromise any demand which prejudices the prerogatives of His Majesty as a Sovereign Ruler."

I'm all for defending yourselves, but nukes don't sit well with me. Nukes will be the death of our kind there is absolutely no doubt about it.

The military could quote numbers all day, but IMHO wasn't worth it. The Japanese navy launched a surprise attack on a military target, the US airforce nuked two fishing villages. The US wanted to end the war quickly, and this was their solution.

I find it rather amusing how people will never admit that they or their country could be wrong.

There are definitely pros to the Atomic Bomb being used, but it was at the cost of many innocent live (plus 2,000 Japanese-Americans who couldn't leave Japan).

BTW the reason we rushed to use the device was Russia had just entered into Manchuria and they were approaching gaining nuclear weapons.

Atomic Bomb #2 was necessary.

Japan still had balls to fend for themselves when they issued kamikaze strikes, took our fire bombing of Tokyo and took the first nuke.

Lesson of Today?

Never screw with the Japanese. They have balls.

You do know we waited only three days before dropping the other nuclear bomb correct? Not a lot of time to allow info to spread. The Nuclear Bombs marked the start of the cold war.

While the Atomic Bomb was [probably, uncertain] the reason for the start of the Cold War, the bombing of Japan definetely wasn't the reason why.

Perhaps the introduced destructive force could've spurred interested but definetely Japan had no play in it.
