(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); In school we had a debate on whether or not the atomic bomb was necessary/justified to drop on Japan. It was very interesting to see what people actually knew on the issue. Personally, I am in the middle, but currently leaning some against it.

Yes and no. They had taken Manchuria, a portion of China.

They were in the process of making their atomic weapons. There are some great reasons for dropping the bomb, but there are also the same for not. I could list either sides.

Of course, that's completely agreed upon. Although honestly, I doubt the Japanese would've surrended without taking some drastic measures.

Yes, but you must remember in April 1945 Japan elected Prime Minister Empire of Japan Kantarō Suzuki. Who was seeking for an end to the war. He was chosen after the last prime minister left as he knew they were losing.

He wanted to end the war yet he made no official statement to the United States?

There are definitely pros to the Atomic Bomb being used, but it was at the cost of many innocent live (plus 2,000 Japanese-Americans who couldn't leave Japan).

BTW the reason we rushed to use the device was Russia had just entered into Manchuria and they were approaching gaining nuclear weapons.

Complete ridding all countries of nukes is what I'd like to see. War is War, but destroying the whole planet isn't good for anyone.

I disagree. Why would a country that would fight to its last breathe give up after 200,000 were dead. Firebombing killed over one million.

Yea firebombing was intense, it is speculated that these towns would of been firebombed had they not been a-bombed.

We had to do this too and it was stupid because we couldn't choose a side, we took turns going back and forth and we had to take whichever side was next.

Personally I think it was wrong but WW2 was all about killing civilians. The Nazis were experts on the matter and the British and the US bombed citizens in Dresden, Germany in what seemed like a retaliation attack.

It's funny how a lot of Americans have no problem with the atomic bomb but act like pearl harbor was the worst genocide in the history of the world.

Yea, umm are you stupid? Peral harbor was a SURPRISE attack on USA soil AFTER we were trying to create peace treatys so somthing like that wouldn't happen. So, yes it was pretty much a backstab in the USA's back by japan and yes the dropping of the atomic bomb was totaly justifed after the horrible acts the jap. and germans did. Just a lil 'fun' fact. Did you know a squad of jap soliders took a preist and 2 nouns prisoners after capturing a town and used them for byonet practice?
