(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); In school we had a debate on whether or not the atomic bomb was necessary/justified to drop on Japan. It was very interesting to see what people actually knew on the issue. Personally, I am in the middle, but currently leaning some against it.

So, yes it was pretty much a backstab in the USA's back by japan and yes the dropping of the atomic bomb was totaly justifed after the horrible acts the jap. and germans did. Just a lil 'fun' fact. Did you know a squad of jap soliders took a preist and 2 nouns prisoners after capturing a town and used them for byonet practice?

First off, no we were not trying to achieve peace. Japan stopped communicating with the US after we set an Oil/steel embargo toward Japan as they were in China. BTW civilians are difference from soldiers.

Most likely yes, and that would have made them habitable at least and brought quick deaths.

my closing statement so far:

The Definition of terrorism is “the use of violence and threats to intimidate or coerce, especially for political purposes.” This is what describes our actions in dropping the atomic bomb. It was simply a political movement to express the power we had at our disposal. Both Albert Einstein and Leo Szilard, both who participated in the Manhattan Project, had sent a letter to President Roosevelt comparing dropping of the bomb, righteously on Japan, by stating that if Germany had used this weapon, and lost the war, “we then would have defined the dropping of atomic bombs on cities as a war crime, and that we would have sentenced the Germans who were guilty of this crime to death at Nuremburg and hanged them.”

Yea if the germans were the ones dropping the bombs on the usa it would be a war crime because we were using them has a defensive action. I mean think about it we were droping the bombs to stop the massacre of hudreds of thousands of jews. Plus it was kind of payback for peral harbor. Plus did you know the japs did do more than one bombing on u.s. soil? The straped high explosives to weather ballons and sent them up in the jet stream(witch is right abouve japan and goes over america. They mostly landed in fields and in crop fields and never killed anyone but its still the point. Also if you dont belive me it was on the history channel and you can even google it.

They attacked a naval base and I don't imagine you would tell someone where and when you are going to attack them. It's not liked they dropped down and started flamthrowing our citizens which is what japs did to the chinese and what americans did to some vietnamese.

Check out what happened in My Lai:

I don't think the US is better or worse than any other country. It's made plenty of mistakes and will continue to do so as you see with soldiers in Afghanistan torturing civilians.

It's all a matter of how history spins things though. WW2 is the story of 6 million jews dying, no one cares about the 25 million Russians dead or the huge impact they had on the outcome of the war.

Just had the debate in class and it was great. The point is the atomic bomb played no part in ending the war.

We felt for the jews thoe? How would you feel if you had to hide for your life not knowing for how long you would have to. Know you and your whole family could be killed at any time?

Because of the after effects of the atomic bomb that led to abnormal levels of radiation.

Unlike firebombing, radiation is a long term thing.

We had alternatives to the nuke you do realize. Also it was us that prevented it as we desired an unconditional surrender.
