(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Hey NGU,

Just thought I'd show everyone the new rack I bought to put all my home computers/servers on. I finished setting it up Saturday night. Right now it seems like there's a lot of empty space, but I bought a large rack so that I'll have room for more computers and servers in the future.

Here's a list of everything in the picture:
Bottom shelf, left: Opti-Ups interruptible power supply
Bottom shelf, right: IBM xSeries rack-mount server running CentOS 5 and Xen
Second shelf, left: Dell Dimension 4300 running Slackware 12
Second shelf, middle: Dell PowerEdge 400SC server running IPCop
Second shelf, right: Gaming computer that I built myself running Windows XP Pro
Third shelf, left: Linksys wireless router and standard router, both with 4 ethernet ports plus a WAN port
Third shelf, middle: D-Link gigabit router with 5 ports
Third shelf, right: Time Warner Cable cable modem (15Mbps down, 2Mbps up)
Fourth shelf: Printer, scanner, then my old HP laptop running Ubuntu 8.04

You can also see my Thinkpad T60 laptop on the right. It has Windows XP Pro on the hard drive but is currently running Kubuntu 8.04 from a 16GB compact flash card.

Comments/suggestions welcome!

Yeah, I spend a decent amount of time setting everything up. The hardware takes a few hours, but I usually spend more overall time on the software.

I'm finally down to only one computer running Windows, if you don't count my laptop which is more of a dual-boot. My IPCop server used to be running Windows Server 2003.

And now that I have Xen installed on my rack-mount server I can create almost any type of linux server for whatever I want. ^_^ A lot of the time I'm not actually at home, so using Xen I can make new servers for stuff without requiring physical access to the server to set it up. I plan on getting at least one more rack-mount server for Xen and then just running linux servers on them as needed. Has anyone else used Xen before? It's my new favorite virtualization platform. Was going to say something about those monitors, seem a bit outdated.
