OK I'll chime in with my 2 cents on the subject.
Everything changes over time on a site like this or any other forum.
Membership comes and goes for different reasons and the topics that are popular change as well.
As the site has grown it has lost some of its smaller community feel and has become a large site that doesn't seem to recognize the importance of new membership's value to it.This has been done by the membership as well as it's staff and ex-staff.
Too much of the Membership (some of whom have only been here a short period) are too harsh on others and show no tolerance or willingness to help newer membership.
They seem to view themselves as having to enforce rules or standards on the site through negative comments, Flip answers, or sending some kind of punishment for mistakes or errors made by others.
Staff and often ex-staff, over the last 2 years, loose focus on the community aspect of the site as well.
Sometimes forgetting that we are guides more than police and we need to be a part of the community and not above it.
I think the fundamental change is that everyone thinks we have "made it" now and don't need to try and build the place up like it's a new site.
We may not be new anymore and we are continuing to increase in membership, but the active member numbers remain somewhat the same ( about 4 to 6 K) and the ratio is declining as membership increases.
Once that mentality pervades the membership and staff, you lose any chance of a community feel to the place, Which it seems that most posting in this thread are saying they miss.
Recently I feel like there has been a lot of positive change in Membership and Staff's attitude towards the site and each other and I am genuinally encouraged about NGU's future, even if I will always miss the small community feel the place had back in the Day
