Post: God vs Science
02-05-2013, 10:02 PM #1
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); The thread that was the shining light of the last two debating sections(ugh, really?) that was God vs Fact has been trashed or something(ugh, again) so this thread is here to take the place of that one.

Some extremely basic terminology...

Theist: believes in a god(s).
Deist: believes in a god(s) that created the universe but subsequently abandoned it and/or believes that reason and observation of the natural world are sufficient to determine the existence of god(s).
Atheist: does not believe in a god(s).
Agnostic: does not claim to know if a god exists or believes that such knowledge cannot be known, depending on the definition. Typically when I personally use this label I'm referring to the former.
Gnostic: claims to know one way or the other if a god exists.

There are some more but that's the basics down. I'm an agnostic atheist. What are you and why?

Edit: Thanks to whichever mod/admin butchered the thread's title and poll. The poll now makes no sense whatsoever.

Faith and Belief Systems are very useful in helping us in testing times. Science is to help us understand the now , not help us through it.
I don't believe in god but still have faith something is keeping an eye on us. The reason it makes it easier to cope within some hard times. Are some lessons which can also help you become a better person if you follow them. Take what you need and use it when you need to. Just like in science certain rules are useful for understanding at that point.

Hope that people from both sides are willing to be understanding of each other and learn from each other. Instead of bitching who is right or wrong.

Genesis 1 says God created the heavens and the Earth...so that means anything except Earth is part of the heavens. Then how did mortal man set foot on the moon?

Ignorance is bliss, as they say.

Sure.

As I said, ignorance is bliss. I happen to care about what's true far more than I do what makes me feel happy. Beyond that, philosophically speaking, people like Christopher Hitchens have made some great arguments against your kind of belief.

Wrong. Being told what to do is not morality in the slightest.

Give me an example of how your belief has helped you understand anything. Anything at all.

For reference, this isn't bitching, this is debating, and the whole point of a debate is to argue your case for being right. If we didn't do that then opinions would rarely ever change.

First off, I never said I believed in the Bible you dumbfuck. :dumb: I do not understand how we came from Bacteria. That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard of.

Just because you don't understand it doesn't mean it isn't true. My understanding of neuroscience is almost remedial, does that everything neuroscience know is untrue? Of course not. Maybe you should take the time to learn about Evolution before dismissing it.

Here's a link to Darwin's Origin of species - You must login or register to view this content.

If you're willing to learn read it, Evolution will make perfect sense afterwards.

I didn't post that. Staff edited my post, I still believe in a God/Super-being and always will. LOL

I'm le back
I'm an atheist.
When I was growing up I was forced to belive in god. All thanks to my parents.
Then my mate started explaining things such as why we can't see him and mainly other stuff. So everything he said made sense into me and thats why I am an atheist because I refuse to not belive due to the facts about him wich dosen't make sense to me.
For example, if the bible is a fact and that the world is 6,000 years old, then why there are fosils found that are more than 1 million years ago.
Also can anyone explain to me how can you fit in a boat every species of animal and plants? ALL OF THAT IN JUST ONE BOAT. That dosen't make any sense at all. Anyways no ofence to anybody. c:
