Post: God vs Science
02-05-2013, 10:02 PM #1
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); The thread that was the shining light of the last two debating sections(ugh, really?) that was God vs Fact has been trashed or something(ugh, again) so this thread is here to take the place of that one.

Some extremely basic terminology...

Theist: believes in a god(s).
Deist: believes in a god(s) that created the universe but subsequently abandoned it and/or believes that reason and observation of the natural world are sufficient to determine the existence of god(s).
Atheist: does not believe in a god(s).
Agnostic: does not claim to know if a god exists or believes that such knowledge cannot be known, depending on the definition. Typically when I personally use this label I'm referring to the former.
Gnostic: claims to know one way or the other if a god exists.

There are some more but that's the basics down. I'm an agnostic atheist. What are you and why?

Edit: Thanks to whichever mod/admin butchered the thread's title and poll. The poll now makes no sense whatsoever.

I agree with Pricey that your opinion is indeed rubbish. One, one thousand or one billion people believing something does not change whether it's true or not.

There is one truth in reality and that doesn't change for anyone. That's why I consider science to be the only accurate measurement of what's true, as it's just the study of reality.

If you want a debate then do that remember before it was the atheist bashing the Christians because they didnt like what we believed. Before you come in here saying science is the only truth understand that science hasnt proved Christianity false. Matter of fact it has given light to the Christian community its whether the person who says science is the only truth must actually have to use scientific evidence to prove that something is true. You must know where truth comes from before you can claim there is truth Smile

Assumptions are the mother of all fuck ups. You've assumed these people even have half a clue what they're talking about. It's fairly safe to say that anyone who told you that doesn't have a clue.

You can't prove a negative- Debate 101. There is an awesome analogy which I'm sure you've came across called Russell's Teapot. Russell says that there is a teapot orbiting the sun somewhere between the Earth and Mars. He then proceeds to ask people to prove that the Teapot isn't there... Obviously you can't prove it isn't there. Hence, you can't prove a negative.

New section, new thread. Let's get it started. Personally, I'm an atheist; science is what I go by.

What about you guys?

Agnostic. The questions I have are if evolution and big bang, where did the universe come from/start. If God, where did he come from/become created.

I have no views regarding either, at most I have around 80 years of life on this Earth. Not a long enough period of time to give a single fuck about how/why/where and who we came from. Smile

After the way i have seen things change rapidly in Science im not sure what to go by or believe anymore to be honest..I question how we were created and how we evolved, like CLM i want to know how the universe even came to be. I want to know the secrets because im very inquisitive. For now i guess it is what it is?Just live life and see what comes of it i guess.
