Yesterday her ex, let's call him John, text her and asked her has she been seeing anyone and she said me. He then text her back with claims that he will "carry his head off" and "beat the f*%k out of" aimed at me also calling me a sly rat and that if he sees me he "won't be able to control myself".

here's the problem. I'm not by any means a fighter. and this guy is. he's been cautioned by police for assault and is a pretty hard guy. I'm not sure how to deal with this guy. any advice?

In all honesty, avoid him. If he sees you and tries to start shit, walk away. If you meet him in public, than hopefully people won't just be bystanders. Make it clear you want no beef with the guy and generally someone will protect the innocent. Also make sure you are good at sprinting. Just fast enough to get to said public place if need be.

Empty threat he still loves her simple as that.
Anything does happen just go to the police and keep copies of the all the texts if something does happen.

I am in the same boat buddy. Girl I am talking to her ex boyfriend literally wants to kill me. He is crazy and I told him "if you really love this girl you would let her be happy with someone else" and he hasn't bothered me since but still hates me.
