I've recently and rather later than a lot of my atheistic counter-parts, thought long and hard about religion and the main question, does God exist. I've reviewed all points and after a while have come to the conclusion that God does not exist for the simple fact that there is no evidence to suggest that he/it does exist. A quote from the late great Christopher Hitchens states "A theory that can be proposed without evidence and be equally dismissed without evidence".

I could write a book at this stage with all reasons why I no longer believe in an all powerful, unquestionable dictator.. but that would take a while and it's 4am.

What's your thoughts on religion and do you think god exists?

Well no I won't and I never have. I put my trust in the people who studied for years to get into the medical profession and that they will take care of them, not some mystical being up in the stars. These people are there for a reason, if we all prayed for God to do it death rates would skyrocket. However this may not be a bad thing as it would be the perfect natural selection situation where the weak die and the strongest live but that's for another day.

Because a scientific theory doesn't mean a theory (an idea that is suggested to be true but is not proven to be true). Scientific theories are proven, but are susceptible to modification or rejection if new data is presented.

Uhm probably the dumbest post I've seen yet. I'm not going to pray to an imaginary being, I'm going to take that person to the doctor so they can get some real help.

I see the idea of one or more gods as an archaic explanation for what humans observed yet couldn't explain. Nowadays we've progressed and we can explain many of these things religion previously provided an explanation for. I see no reason and no viable evidence that would lead me to believe in a god. What I hate seeing is people spewing shit out of their mouths (or keyboards) saying shit like you can't have morality without religion or trying to force their religious beliefs into law.

As for death, I think there was another thread regarding this that I commented on, but I see the idea of Heaven and Hell as a way to control people and the way they behave. Death is death. When you die, you die. You can lie to yourself and believe you'll move onto another life after death because you fear death, but I'd rather not bullshit myself like that.
