(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Hey guys. I've recently and rather later than a lot of my atheistic counter-parts, thought long and hard about religion and the main question, does God exist. I've reviewed all points and after a while have come to the conclusion that God does not exist for the simple fact that there is no evidence to suggest that he/it does exist. A quote from the late great Christopher Hitchens states "A theory that can be proposed without evidence and be equally dismissed without evidence".

I could write a book at this stage with all reasons why I no longer believe in an all powerful, unquestionable dictator.. but that would take a while and it's 4am.

What's your thoughts on religion and do you think god exists?

I believe OP means if you acknowledge a God to exist. xD sorry if that sound weird...

There is no reason to believe a spiritual unquestionable God created it either...

No, there is no God and never will be. For all the people who say well who built this world, did you ever take astronomy classes? You would know the formation of stars and planets i caused when gravity pulls gas and other elements into a point slowly compressing it untill solid matter is formed due to the pressure of gravity. Nuclear fusion (Nucleosynthesis) can then occur making elements up to Iron, then the star collapses and what not.... Also it has been proven in a 10 year study the life can occur through the interactions of chemicals which create amino acids that turn into proteins and then into bacteria which multiply via mitosis and then evolve into what we have now.

People will go on forever questioning God. You can take as many astronomy classes as you want but no science or theory is advanced enough to prove there is not a God. Same goes for the other way around; there's no real proof there is a God either. So my answer rather than yes or no is: I don't know. Nobody really knows, think about it. People are so closed-minded and saying there is no God or there is a God isn't fact. You can believe or have faith in God or not but at the end of the day it's all belief. So as a free-spirited human being we can believe in anything we want but we shouldn't act like we know 100% that God does or does not exist. Smile

To those who use the word theory naively... Just because something is a theory you think it's appropriate to completely disregard it as nonsense? Like the theory of gravity or the shape of the Earth?

In modern science, the term "theory" refers to scientific theories, a well-confirmed type of explanation of nature, made in a way consistent with scientific method, and fulfilling the criteria required by modern science. [You must login or register to view this content.]

I'd also like to chime in on the overall discussion, I see it as something we shouldn't even concern ourselves with. If there is a God, and he/she/it/they would be so foolish as to send those who do not worship them to "hell", well then I'd rather be in "hell" than be punished for questioning what's crammed down most people's throats as kids. Regardless of whether or not you believe in the existence of a deity, you should be more focused on the present than worrying about the (improbable) possibility of an afterlife. We'll never know (at least in any of our lifetimes) so there's no point bitching about it.

Lol just came on to this forum and this thread is still here. Anyway I agree with you there, God is an unknown variable. You can choose to believe him or not, to some, God's evidence is self-evident, to others it's not. It's your free will to believe in him or not. Have a nice day.

I'm a bit on the agnostic side. I don't know.

Well I believe in a higher power..Who ever chooses not to believe well! that entirely up to you.. Although i may not always walk the righteous path.. I still believe in god.. Science has proven you don't have to see something to know it's there..

I find it fascinating that religious people are so quick to dismiss the Big Bang Theory, but devote their lives to the biggest theory of them all... At least scientific evidence and explanation have been provided for the Big Bang Theory, but where is the evidence for God? The Bible? The bible is an old book that has been revised one to many times to meet the morals of the world. The only major religion stuck in the Ancient Era is Islam.

If God exists, he should strike me down right now for my denial(ISIS bombing me does not count)... Well shit, I'm alive.

I do not hate idea of religion; I hate the consequences of extremists. How many people have died in the name of God(Allah)? Millions. The Knights of Templar slaughtering innocent people in the name of God. Hundreds of thousands died during the European Dark Age, thanks to the Churches controlling the flow of money and power(even more so than the King of England). What about the Spanish inquisition? Oh, how can we forget about the harsh Mosaic laws? Even today we find there is a war against a certain religious-extremist group, and I'm not talking about the annoying Jehovah's Witness(they haven't done anything to the extreme, but are very annoying). Sorry, I'm off topic from the original question.

No I don't believe in A GOD, but I might be swayed to believe in the Avatar and element benders.

In all honesty, humanity should just move away from trying to figure out how we were created, and just focus on what can be discovered, and exploration.
Life and humanity is like a video game, Tetris to be exact. There is no way to win, extinction is a loss, and pausing is not a win or loss, but playing will build humanity up, it will help us make a better future; but then again, there is only one end to a game like Tetris.

Also, religion should never be forced on to anybody. Religion should not be taught in science classes, after all that is what religion classes are for.
