Why is everyone singling out developers? Infinity Ward this, Treyarch that...
We all need to stop for a moment and realize that the developer behind the game is not always a key factor in how good the game will be, especially when it comes to the Call of Duty series. If we look back, we'll find that many people very much disliked World at War, and ridiculed Treyarch for producing a game that did not exceed that of Modern Warfare [1]. Infinity Ward was looked upon to be the savior of the series, to "one up" their competitors by releasing Modern Warfare 2, in which was to be a masterpiece.
Now, here we are again, but now, on the inverse of things, people are complaining about Infinity Ward, and many more people are looking at Treyarch to clean up the mess. This should serve as solid proof that, when it comes to this series, at least, both developers have their pros and cons, and neither of them have proved to be significantly better than the other (in my opinion).
In this series, I think the "better" developer is simply the one who takes the best opportunities, and re-creates the worlds most well-known conflicts in the most enjoyable and realistic way.
I just wanted to implement my opinion on this, because it seems people are once again taking the sides of developers, when I don't think that that is necessarily the right thing to do when it comes to this series, as each developer has a chance to make a great game, a mediocre game, and a bad game. That, my friends, is just something we'll have to wait and see.
You bring up some interesting points,a lot of people thought MW was better than WAW, but a lot of people liked WAW better, and still do. Personally I'm not a fanboy of either studio. I have respsect for both of them. COD7 probably wont sell as well because it won't be as hyped or backed by its production company, Activision, just like WAW wasn't hyped up. I mean I remeber just hearing all the hype about MW2, and knew it was going to be trash, and guess what it was. Still made record breaking sales, but in this day and age that doesn't really mean that it was a great game, just means Activision knew how to play on the idiocy of consumers.
