(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); While the second-hand gaming market is great for the consumer, it is of no benefit to the game developers, who receive nothing from the second-hand industry. This is leading to loss of revenue.

There are two alternatives for game developers, they either prohibit the practice of consumers selling their unwanted games, or they can take their new approach which is to charge second-hand users for online play. This would be done by having a single-use online access code to be included in game boxes. The original buyer would use the code, and subsequent owners would have to purchase a new code if they would like to make use of the game's online play.

EA have been the first game developers to use the idea, but it would appear that this will soon be used across the board. Companies such as Sony are considering using it for their first-party titles.

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe President Andrew House recently stated that they are exploring the option for their own content. He said that they may have to either implement this or a blanket charge for online play, but they would 'struggle with [that]' as they would prefer to keep PSN's free-to-use policy.

What do you make of the idea of charging subsequent game owners for online play?

This is bullcrap... So you're telling me, if I buy a game and it turns out to be ****, I am not allowed to get any money back? It was a complete and total waste? If companies make crappy games, they deserve to lose money.

What about companies like Gamefly? Or rental stores? Or second hand shops? Just completely drop PS3 support for newer titles? This is comparable to a monopoly. Being forced to buy games new at a higher price, when we could just easily purchase them for $20 cheaper from someone who doesn't even want the damn game.

What are we supposed to do with the games we buy that aren't all they're cracked up to be? Throw them out? This is just ****ing ridiculous!

If they're going to implement this, they at least need to make advertisements a little more honest. Don't tell me a game is amazing if it sucks. Don't cherry-pick the reviews. And don't display arbitrary ratings.

This is monopolization in my opinion.

exactly and what if i want to go to the movie store and rent a game from there? are you telling me that the lucky basterd that was first to rent it is the only one who gets to play online? and evereyone else has to pay ontop of the fee for renting it?

if sony decides to implement this then i believe they will lose some of there customer base.

i dont think it would affect alot of us. but then again, I think sony/microsoft n others
should force gamestop n other used game sellers to share game revenues with them, instead of stealing more of our money.

Think about it, u buy a $60 game from gamestop, they buy it bak for $10 and sell it back for $50 in return. makin 10x profit.. I doubt that any part of that profit goes to sony/microsoft. The problem lies there not in us <_< stupid greedy bastards.

You wouldn't be able to play on more than one account, or let friends borrow or play the game without them having your PS3...

Awful Idea

Cool story bro!
Blockbuster and other rental places will take a huge hit if this happens. Considering blockbuster is a big player in the rental industry, I'm pretty sure that they won't go on without a fight.

Shiver do you lift?
I do agree in some way but then most shops like GAME and HMV which are famous for there 2nd hand deals would go out of business.

I do buy most of my games new but from time to time me and my cussins swap games to get the trophys and play some online while were at it.

So this would be a big problem.

If the code could be used 5 times like gamsharing then that would be better Smile
