There are two alternatives for game developers, they either prohibit the practice of consumers selling their unwanted games, or they can take their new approach which is to charge second-hand users for online play. This would be done by having a single-use online access code to be included in game boxes. The original buyer would use the code, and subsequent owners would have to purchase a new code if they would like to make use of the game's online play.

EA have been the first game developers to use the idea, but it would appear that this will soon be used across the board. Companies such as Sony are considering using it for their first-party titles.

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe President Andrew House recently stated that they are exploring the option for their own content. He said that they may have to either implement this or a blanket charge for online play, but they would 'struggle with [that]' as they would prefer to keep PSN's free-to-use policy.

What do you make of the idea of charging subsequent game owners for online play?

Wouldn't this completely screw over the online aspect of PSJailbreaking? They may not have mentioned that, but it could be a pre-reaction.

**** that i have bfbc2 and i can only use the vip code on one account even though its on the same ps3. i have multiple accounts so this is ridicoulous. i use my bsc-ameht the most but i cant use it to play bfbc2 because my vip is on another account. so to me this is bullshit

I don't see why everyone is complaining that Sony is considering doing it with their games. Just about all future EA games, will already require the second person wanting to play online to buy an online pass. So it's not like Sony's doing anything new.

Also, THQ, has recently announced that they'll be charging second-hand buyers for a pass to access online as well, and obviously Activision is going to do something similar. So what Sony's doing is not too big of a deal since most major companies are doing the same thing.

On a side note. I don't buy used games, unless I can't find them new.

On the other hand Jtags and Jailbreaks would be useless.

A person can download the code how many times he wants, it's just only his user can use it. So if you get the YLOD, all you do is going into download history and redownload it.
