My mum and dad purchased a Wii for christmas in 2009 or 2010 and i can probably count on one hand how many times they've actually played on it, hell Nintendo may as well have said "ya know why not just give me £200 and have this jar of air". the lack of using a wii means nintendo have no demand for new features which makes them not have to do a thing meaning they get money for practically selling you something you'll play on a couple of times a year.
I believe that Nintendo was the only company still making profits on their consoles years down the line, infact i still think they are making the most profits on every console bought unlike Xbox and Ps3 which had to slash prices.
I mean i have hated nintendo consoles ever since they made the gamecube, i've never found the urge to buy a nintendo product again as they've all been crap to me as a gamer, i loved the N64 and the SNES and those were unrivaled gaming consoles (back when Nintendo had hardly any competition), now Nintendo are like "Shit we cannot compete with these money whores" and decided to leave the "real" gaming console markets alone and let MS and Sony battle it out.
Sony and Microsoft take note: make a console with a novelty facture and dont do anything to it = profitz
Nintendo: "U mad Sony and Microsoft?"
The thing about the coding, the coders who create Uncharted 3 have already proved that when a game is developed for the PS3 and is coded using their language that the games graphics, speed are great and glitches are bare minimum as these PS3 glitches dealing with graphics appear during the porting because not all the code is properly converted or isn't supported in the correct way.
The Wii by far for occasional use or with a friend/family or GF/BF are great in my opinion. A lot of my friends just got it for that very reason as it creates interaction.
The Wii is a cheap device, they could still cut the prices down to 100 if they wanted.
The Xbox still uses old hardware, and are, if I am correct maxing out at 480p with graphics, they, if they wanted could cut their prices a bit more. The PS3, and the reason for the expensive cost is that they incorporated Blu-ray. Expensive at first release and now that time passed they can produce it cheaper, thus the price of the console lowers.
Comparing the Xbox to the PS3, I still find the main aspect of the PS3 better than the Xbox as it simply can provide you with more than what the Xbox can.
All I hear from friends with the Xbox is that it over-heats or they have to replace something in it. I almost never hear anything bad about the PS3, (Well, the controller is about it with the trigger buttons as it has a thin metal piece providing the drawback.)

Honestly, I really think that if Microsoft and Sony were to combine departments for console making they would incorporated everything that would be great, tons of features and it would mean 2 major systems compared to 3.
This would draw in and create a larger single gaming community. They could easily keep the requirement of 50 dollars for 1 year of gaming, however now that all these add-ons are on one system and are not going back and forth between consoles a lot of people would be alright with spending that extra 50.
It would also end a ton of the hate.

But, they would never go for that.
Nintendo = fun as hell with friends (Especially games like zelda and crap)
