Apparently it's done through hex with the GT5.0 file from your save (perhaps it has to be decrypted first) . I am going to begin experimenting now. If anyone gets on to something please share! And I will share any progress I make as well.

I was in the process of editing with hex and all of a sudden the program shts down and the file is now stopping me from editing it in hex. Any ideas?

I applaud your efforts. I'm at the HP editing stage after fixing a faulty program. it definitely is not easy

How many numbers you need to change to modify horsepower?

One, it's quite obvious if you compare save. I've stated in a previous post get a few saves with the limiter on (50, 100) this will roughly put you at an offset where some of the car data is stored - then get about 3 saves with different moddified cars and look for some differences! an it just one byte that needs changing and you can change some other bytes to add some extra stuff to the car and yeah Good luck
