(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Ok i recently found this way on YouTube and tried it and the reason i didn't record is because i thought it wouldn't work.... BUT IT DOES!

This wont damage anything, there can be a game and HDD in the system while you do this and it wont mess it up.

Things needed:
- 2-3 Towels or shirts
- Hair dryer
- Fan (optional but takes less time with it)

First off place the PS3 on the 1st towel/shirt like this:
You must login or register to view this content.
(ignore the white specs)

Next wrap both sides up then the back up like so:
You must login or register to view this content.

Then do the same thing with the second towel/shirt but flipped it over and wrap it:
You must login or register to view this content.

After that take your hair dryer and put it about 3-4inches from the back of the ps3:
You must login or register to view this content.
(yes thats a flash light.... i couldnt find the hair dryer its just for an example)
Leave the hair dryer running for 15 minutes (no less and not much more or you will melt your ps3)

Pull the ps3 out the towels (it WILL! be hot) then place it in front of a fan for 5-10min:
You must login or register to view this content.
(you will hear snapping... its because the plastic getting hot then cold quickly)

This is a video i found (he did a box but towels work better because it keeps the heat in better)

I open the PS3 several times, inside out, and I have seen a lot of components failed, and temporary spring back to life. I also have some soldering i did on the board (which is another story).

All im saying is that next time when it fail, rather take out the motherboard, and heat treat that alone. It will flex the board and temporary bring it back. Depends on how much you use it, in a few weeks (some say months, but for me it was 3 weeks) the hairdryer trick will stop to work, and the duration between fixes get shorter. So i did try it before, and as i am commenting on my own personal experience. However, i will not do the hairdryer thing without opening it, see the video on what can happen to the casing.

It will only melt if you leave the hair dryer going longer than 15min, but whatever I'm done discussing this with you.

It works, enough said.

It will works as a quick fix for a couple of hours, to deactivate your account, and copy files like pictures etc you may have on the system.

If you want a real fix you have to use a heatgun on the motherboard to reconnect the solder. That takes about 2 hours to fully do.

This method is not a fix, its a temporary fix at best. I tried them all on my first PS3, and i weeded out the ones that doesnt work, or only work for a short while.

You do not need to heat treat the motherboard since its not broken yet. All you need to do is get rid of the old thermal paste, and re-apply it. Your thermal paste is probably cracked from prolonged use, meaning the heatsinks doesnt connect properly to the fan contacts anymore. After that you will have months of playtime left.

If the heatgun method didnt work, this wont as well. Check your power supply. If you have a slim you can do the fan test to see if it switches on. The hairdryer might have worked since you have lose contacts on other parts of the PS3, meaning its still only temporary. You will need to check every single connection, and also the powersupply.

After moderate use I reapplied new thermal paste because it does dry out. The thermal paste it comes with is pure shit. I bought the good stuff to fix it. If the thermal paste dries up then it will lead to YLOD from overheating.

Very important point this. If possible service the PS3 every so often with just re-applying the thermal paste when the fan starts to go a bit loud from excessive use.

Yes. The paste that comes on them is pure cheap crap which is what causes the YLOD 90% of the time.

When I examined the CPU and GPU on my fat model, I noticed that the thermal paste is most similar to a silicone based type. The paste I used to replace mine is the metal (silver) based type by Arctic Silver, Inc. which is available You must login or register to view this content..

The silicone and ceramic based types just simply don't cut it.
