Sony stated recently via a blog update that a PlayStation 3 firmware update will be released upon the PlayStation Network’s revival, and now it seems that one PS3 user has already got the firmware update notification whilst PSN is down.

A user on GAF posted the following images showing he received the firmware update notification whilst the PSN is down today (click on image to enlarge): The PS3 owner, DailyVacation, was asked to verify his current PlayStation 3 firmware version and he replied:

Still at 3.60. If you select yes, you get the message stating you already have the latest firmware. So it seems they’re activating it for certain locations? I’m gonna put up screenshot in a bit.

Could Sony be starting to finally bring back the PlayStation Network?

unless he showed what FW he is on, the correct date not only from what it says on the screen but other means maybe go on the internet browser and google whats the time or summing then update, id believe but nope, prob another wanting attention

Updates certain ones are not from the store not sure if the FW is on the store or not
I doubt it is

I guess they are adding the FW to the servers but not changing the FW needed to log on. In other words updating the servers with the FW BUT not turning them on yet.

FW updates do not come from the store mate. other wise you'd see it to downloaded, its on a different server.
