I ALSO FOUND THIS WAS THE CASE WHEN I TOOK MY OWN PS3 APART ASWELL
so i found this by chance long story cut short my neighbour smashed his ps3 up and i took it off him to salvage the bluray drive from it(IT STILL WORKS)
then i noticed that when u take the ps3 apart that the hole were the security screw is that the screw doesnt actually come out the other end
also the security screw DOESNT screw into anything it SITS in the gap on the POWER PACK
once again sony cutting corners you viod your warranty when u dont have to touch the sticker
so therefore it is possible to open up the ps3 without peeling the sticker off and voiding your warranty
ive undone 2 ps3's without undoing the security screw
video shows how to slide the thin plastic top off (NOTE SECURITY SCREW IS UNTOUCHED)

i no i think alot of people undo the screw but i havent got that style of screwdriver so i just ripped the top off

his girlfriend knocked it off the side and he then tested to see if it still worked
the ps3 wouldnt switch on
so he started hitting it with a hammer coz it was broke

nice find, but unfortunately, it does not affect me bcus my 3 year warranty ran out in early 2010, then got ylod and my 90 day warranty ran out.
