(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Hey, my PS3 just recently broke and I took it apart and tried fixing it but got no luck. But before I threw it away (I took EVERYTHING apart) I took out the HDD (Disk Drive). Its the 120 GB slim from 2009, and its a Toshiba. Can I use it as a external hard drive? I think I can but do I need a enclosure for it? If I do, what kind do I need, and can you please post the link to buy it (I only use Amazon and eBay) thanks!!

hey, pretty much you need a sata to usb 2.5 enclosure. They range in price from like $3 and up. some cheap ones require you to use two usb ports, other more expensive ones only need one usb port for power. both should work for you, your going to have to choose which it right for you. here is a link on amazon to some:

Is it even possible to be used as an external? I mean, with all possible connections made and all you get is the light turning off. Maybe its asking for more power, or perhaps some other sort of case. Try placing it in your laptop directly and see if it is detected.

Why don't you just use a laptop hdd?

Maybe you could download some sort of driver that will enable the laptop to recognize the PS3.

What kind of driver do I need? Man, this is SOO confusing, I thought all i had to do is take the PS3's HDD out of the case and put it in my enclosure with the thing on it :(

Ok so let me explain this in a simple way to avoid confusion. What you currently have is your laptop, the enclosure and your Hard Drive Disc (HDD) from the PS3, now the problem is that your PC may not recognize your HDD or USB Port. A driver is kind of like a software to make something readable or usable, kind of like iTunes, If you download a movie from Apple, you need the iTunes Media Player to watch it, essentially this is the same thing, YOU NEED THE CORRECT DRIVER FOR IT TO BE RECOGNIZABLE. To find the driver, go on the website of the USB SATA enclosure's company/maker. Ex: iPod, iPhone = Apple.com. Search for the correct driver and download it. Now before doing all of this, unplug everything in the enclosure, cords etc.. And plug it back together and try again. If it does work, make sure to format the HDD via your laptop using My Computer- Right click on HDD- Format. If all of this fails, which it might, don't panic, I am sure that the problem is with the power source of the HDD enclosure, so just buy a new one. You must login or register to view this content. I am sure this one will work just fine. Contact me if you need any further help, Don't forget to +Rep/Thank me if I helped. Happy Holidays. Ohh and make sure that you put the Hard Drive correctly into the Enclosure.
